Goodbye!

Italy have certainly gone from dark horses to favourites after another empathic display in Rome this evening.

At this moment in time, you can't pick any weaknesses in Mancini's side but many would argue that they haven't faced anyone with real quality yet.

Switzerland attention will quickly be turned to Turkey on Sunday as a place in the knockout stages is not completely gone, but will need nothing less than three points in Baku.

That's all for me for now. Stay tuned for more action from Euro 2020. From all of us at VAVEL, this is Paolo Iantosca signing off and saying take care for now!

FULL TIME: Italy 3-0 Switzerland

Italy have become the first nation to secured their place into the knockout stages of Euro 2020 after a emphatic 3-0 victory over Switzerland.

Italy 3-0 Switzerland

The goalkeeper should be saving that! Immobile unleashes a shot from the edge of the box and Sommer gets a hand on the ball, but isn't strong enough to stop the ball rifling into back of the net.

85' - More changes for Italy

Goalscorer Locatelli receives a standing ovation from everyone inside the ground as he replaced by Cristane.

Barella also makes way for Pessina.

81' - Shaqiri

I'm obviously not keeping a close eye on the game as I have only just realised Shaqiri has been taken off, with Vargas coming on in his place. Are Switzerland preparaing for the game against Turkey now.

72' - Immobile chance

Despite Italy's dominance, we haven't really heard Immobile name throughout this game, but the Lazio forward is released down the left and positioned himself for a shot, although his effort bobbles past the far post. Should be 3-0.

69' - Double change for Italy

Berardi and Insigne depart the pitch, with Chiesa and Toloi replacing the duo.
21:24a month ago

63' - First save for Donnarumma

The Italian could have enjoyed about three cups of coffees so far, but has finally been called into action.

Freuler slides in Zuber on the left, who takes one touch and forces Donnarumma to save with his feet before the Azzurri defence clear the ball.

60' - First opportunity for Shaqiri

It's been a very very quiet evening for Shaqiri so far. However, the Liverpool man manages to get past Jorginho and unleashes an effort but flies well over.

Just not Switzerland evening.

Italy are on top and causing problems for Switzerland across the whole pitch, who just can't get control of the ball.

Can Switzerland cause an upset this evening?

19:26a month ago

A word from Vladmir Pektovic

Switzerland manager Petkovic was quietly positive about his team's performance against Switzerland, but knows Italy will be a different opposition.

“We certainly created many chances [against Wales]. We perhaps should have finished off one or two of them. It's disappointing, but we're not too displeased with our performance. Against Italy it will be a very different match."

A word from Roberto Mancini

Mancini acknowledges the importance of starting the tournament well and having supporters back in grounds, but says they still have a long way to go:

"We had a good game against Turkey. It was important to start well in Rome, and I think it is a satisfaction for everyone who is with us: for the fans and all Italians. It was a beautiful evening, so I hope there are many others like it. There is still a long way to go; we have to play six more games like this [to win the title], starting with the one against Switzerland."

Eyes on Italy

Wales have just beaten Turkey in the other Group A match earlier, with Aaron Ramsey and Connor Roberts grabbing the goals.

That now means if Italy secure a victory over Switzerland this evening, then Roberto Mancini's men would qualify for knockout stages.

Switzerland Team News!

Switzerland boss Vladimir Petkovic - who will return to Stadio Olimpico after a short spell as Lazio manager - is also to make minimal changes to his starting eleven that drew against Wales on Saturday.

Midfielder Denis Zakaria could be a possible introduction to Petkovic starting eleven against Italy, matching against Mancini’s powerful three-man midfielder, then allowing Xherdan Shaqiri and Embolo to be deployed as leaders of the attack, switching to a 3-5-2 formation.

This week, the Swiss have called up goalkeeper Gregor Kobel to replace the injured Jonas Omlin in their 26-man squad.

Italy Team News!

Marco Verratti back in training, though, the game against Switzerland could come too soon for the Paris St Germain midfielder, with Wales fixture a more likely chance for minutes.

Therefore, in-demand Manuel Locatelli is set to retain his place alongside Jorginho and Nico Barella once again.

One possible change for Mancini could be at right-back, as Alessandro Florenzi struggled to shake off an ongoing calf problem, forcing him to be replaced at half-time against Turkey.
