The Netherlands concluded play in Group A with a 2-0 victory over hosts Qatar at the 2022 World Cup.

Louis van Gaal's side needed just a point to qualify for the knockout stages while the Maroons were already eliminated - the first host nation to be knocked out after two games in World Cup history.

Cody Gakpo opened the scoring in the 27th minute and Frenkie de Jong added a second four minutes into the second half.

Here's how players on both sides rated.

Netherlands

Andries Noppert - 6

Didn't have too much to do, but was sharp when he needed to be. Saved from Homam Ahmed with his legs in the second half.

Jurrien Timber - 6.5

Inserted for Matthijs de Ligt on the right and had such a confident, routine evening that van Gaal may seriously consider him to start in the Round of 16.

Virgil Van Dijk - 6.5

Gave a glimpse of what he can do with a sumptuous ball to Memphis Depay in the opening 30 seconds. Didn't have to do much defensively, but was upset to give away a corner midway through the first half.

Nathan Ake - 6

Wasn't getting forward with the ball as he had earlier in the tournament, but that's because the Oranje had most of the possession.

Denzel Dumfries - 6

Was a threat down the right flank and forced Meshaal Barsham into a near-post save in the second half. Lost an aerial duel which led to a rare Qatar attack.

Marten de Roon - 6

Anchored the midfield well, although sloppy in possession at times. Van Gaal has a decision to make whether to replace him with Teun Koopmeiners in the last 16.

Frenkie de Jong - 7.5

Just his second international goal in 48 appearances capped off a solid evening. The soul of the Dutch possession game throughout the entirety of the match.

Daley Blind - 6

Posed an attacking threat early on and sent in some dangerous crosses, but his best wasn't needed considering the Oranje were in complete control.

Cody Gakpo - 8

A new star on the world scene is born with his third goal in three games. Johan Neeskens, Dennis Bergkamp and Wesley Sneijder are the only other Dutch players to score in three straight World Cup games. His future is limitless.

Memphis Depay - 6

Surprise start and it showed as he was off-form. Played better in the second half and his shot was saved by Barsham before falling to de Jong.

Substitutes

Steven Berghuis - 6.5

His goal was ruled out for a Gakpo handball as he looks to impress enough to earn a starting spot. Curled one off the crossbar late on.

Vincent Janssen - 6

Set up Berghuis with a square pass, but was hoping for more service than he got as the Dutch shut things down.

Wout Weghorst - N/A

Teun Koopmeiners - N/A

Kenneth Taylor - N/A

Qatar

Meshaal Barsham - 6.5

Did a fine job keeping it two and had some fine saves in the second half. Knew nothing about either goal, especially with a poor defense in front of him.

Ismaeel Mohammad - 5.5

Was an occasional threat and sent in the odd cross, but failed to deal with the Dutch threat all that well.

Pedro Miguel - 5

Had a late daisy cutter go wide and put in some nice crosses from the right. Was most responsible for the lax defending that allowed de Jong to score.

Boualem Khoukhi - 5

Was part of the back-line that Gakpo tore to shreds and also responsible for the second goal.

Abdelkarim Hassan - 5

Was fearless in going forward and shot over in the first half, but was to blame when the Oranje strung together a few passes that cut the defense open.

Homam Ahmed - 5

Got the worst of a clash of heads with Klaassen. Not his best in defense.

Abdulaziz Hatem - 5.5

Gave Noppert something to think about with a long-range effort, but that was perhaps Qatar's best effort as they struggled in advanced areas.

Assim Madibo - 5

Saw very little of the ball and was replaced on the hour mark. Didn't make much happen.

Hassan Al-Haydos - 5

Not very good for the skipper and he was taken off after 64 minutes. A tournament he won't want to remember.

Almoez Ali - 5.5

Got no service in attack, but Al-Haydos tried to feed him in a threatening position just before halftime, but got it all wrong.

Akram Afif - 5

He was just basically wandering around as the Dutch paid close attention to him.

Substitutes

Karim Boudiaf - 5

Brought on for fresh legs, but didn't make any difference.

Mohammed Muntari - 6

Scored the Maroons' only goal of the tournament against Senegal, but failed to replicate that here. Was in the right position when his side attacked.

Ali Assadalla - 6

Another sub that did very little to change things.

Ahmed Alaaeldin - N/A

Musab Khoder - N/A
