PSV, meanwhile, will be the happier of the two after the red card. They go to Spain in need of a win, nonetheless.
Full time! The first leg ends goalless in Eindhoven as PSV hang on for a goalless draw. Atleti will be disappointed that they don't take a win into the second leg, especially given the red card for the hosts, but it's still a good result to take into their home leg.
90 - Harsh free-kick given against Griezmann as she jumps to challenge Zoet for the ball. The 'keeper drops it but his blushes are spared. There will be three added minutes.
89 - Griezmann collects the ball in the box and tees up Correa, who lashes his shot wide of the target. Atleti keep it alive though and remain on the attack as full time nears.
88 - Lestienne's first touch is a volley over the bar! The angle is against him as he escapes Godin and meets Hendrix's cross, and he can only steer his effort off target.
86 - PSV's third and final change sees Locadia replaced by Lestienne.
85 - Gabi puts the ball into the box for Griezmann, but his header from the edge of the box loops up and eventually into the hands of Zoet.
83 - Atleti maybe over-complicating things now. Correa is picked out in the box but it's overdone and Zoet gets his hands on the ball.
80 - More heroic defending from Bruma, who takes Correa's shot right in the face! The referee stops play but the defender is fine to continue after a brief moment to recover.
79 - Another chance! Griezmann and Fernando Torres link up well and it ends with the latter striking goalwards, only for Bruma to block well and deflect it behind for a corner.
75 - Guardado is replaced by Hendrix for PSV now as they look to hang on to a goalless draw.
74 - Inevitably, Atleti are putting the pressure on now. Correa replaces Saul as they look to build on that.
70 - Chance! Juanfran does well down the right and drills the ball into the box, but Fernando Torres lashes it over the bar.
69 - Good effort! Gabi strikes at goal from range, but Zoet makes a good save - one you'd expect your 'keeper to make from 30 yards out.
68 - Red card! Pereiro is off and PSV are down to 10! He jumps dangerously into Godin and he's now been dismissed for his second yellow card, following a couple of warnings.
65 - PSV clear the corner then make their first change as Isimat replaces Narsingh.
63 - A few fouls in quick succession and the game's getting a little heated now... Corner to Atleti after good work from Saul.
62 - Goal disallowed! Godin heads in but he's penalised for climbing on his opponent as he rose to meet the corner. Seems like the right decision.
61 - First change of the day sees Vietto replaced by Fernando Torres.
57 - Risky business from Koke at the other end, who nearly turns the ball into the back of his own net with his clearance. Oblak scrambles across, but it's wide anyway. Corner for PSV.
55 - Koke's delivery is right at Zoet, who catches routinely in the home goal.
54 - Second yellow card of the day goes to Pereiro, who catches Filipe Luis off the ball. Free-kick in a good position now for Atleti.
52 - Atleti get a few crosses into the box but PSV stand their ground and resist each one.
50 - Not too much happening again. Griezmann breaks and looks to be impeded by Arias, but nothing is given on the edge of the box. Now, PSV have a free-kick on the right wing after a foul by Godin. Good position to get the ball into the box.

In the other Champions League clash tonight, Manchester City are leading Dynamo Kyiv 2-0 in Russia. Sergio Agüero bagged the first goal after 15 minutes, and David Silva followed on 40 minutes. If you want to follow that game too, you can do right here with our live commentary.
Half time! It's goalless at the break in Eindhoven. PSV have had more chances, but Atleti had the one big one when Griezmann ran through on goal but was denied by Zoet.
46 - There will be just the one added minute at the end of this half.
45 - Atleti's turn for a good spell as they end the half with successive corners - both of which are cleared with relative ease however.
42 - Momentum changing again. It's PSV on top now as we near the break, but they're not having much joy against this sturdy Atleti back line.
32 - Huge chance for PSV this time! They break through but Atleti come out on top with some superb last ditch defending, with several blocks ensuring pinball in the area doesn't result in a goal.
30 - Griezmann should score! He's slipped through, one-on-one with Zoet, but the 'keeper comes out on top in the duel. Huge chance.
27 - Griezmann tries to slip in Filipe Luis, but the attempt is intercepted and cleared. Atleti back on the front foot.
25 - PSV getting into this more in terms of being on the ball now, but Atleti standing strong at the back as per and limiting their opponents to very little.
22 - First yellow card of the day is brandished Savic's way for a mistimed challenge on Locadia.
13 - PSV not happy with decisions going against them so far. Nothing major worth arguing - a couple of penalty shouts with little in them - but a few throw-ins and free-kicks on top of that are aggravating the crowd and the players.
10 - Locadia wants a penalty - as do the home fans - but the PSV man was looking for it as he dived into Gabi's leg. Referee says no.
9 - PSV pose a threat for the first time in the match, but Atleti defend well. The crowd's response is good though, with them having watched the hosts be on the back foot so far.
4 - So close! Vietto times his run perfectly and meets a super ball over the top before lifting the ball over Zoet. However, Bruma is there to clear off the line brilliantly! Vietto now down injured after colliding with Zoet.
3 - Griezmann with an early half chance, but his touch is too heavy and the ball runs through to Zoet in the home goal.

No surprises in the PSV line-up then, though there are a few in Atletico's as Oliver Torres and Vietto get starts.

Atletico Madrid predicted XI (4-4-2): Oblak; Juanfran, Savic, Godin, Filipe Luis; Koke, Gabi, Saul, Correa; Griezmann, F. Torres.
PSV Eindhoven predicted XI (4-3-3): Zoet; Arias, Bruma, Moreno, Willems; Pröpper, Guardado, van Ginkel; Narsingh, Pereiro, Locadia.
They will have to work hard to maintain their good form though as Atletico have kept seven clean sheets in their last nine league games. They managed four in their six group stage games too and will fancy their chances of keeping PSV at bay with a study defence that cancels out an attack that is sometimes lacking - especially recently.
The goal-scoring burden will thus shift onto other players. 20-year-old Gaston Pereiro has nine goals in 10 starts in the league and is sure to earn himself a start on Wednesday in de Jong's absence, whilst Marco van Ginkel has already bagged two goals in three games since joining on loan from Chelsea last month.
One player that the Dutch outfit will definitely be without though is striker Luuk de Jong, who has a suspension to serve in this competition. With 17 goals in 23 league games this season, plus a further two in both the Champions League and the cup, he will be a huge miss for the hosts on Wednesday and make their tough task of breaking down Atletico even more difficult.
PSV, on the other hand, are expecting to welcome back Andres Guardado, who has been out since the end of January with a hamstring problem picked up in a 4-2 win over De Graafschap. Speaking to the press ahead of the game, via ESPN, manager Phillip Cocu said that he "think[s]" the player will be available for the game, adding that he is "working hard" to be fit again. Nonetheless, Cocu continued, saying that "if [Guardado] is not match fit yet," then he is "confident" that PSV "have the right players who can deputise in his position."
The team news doesn't favour the La Liga outfit either. With a number of their players on the sidelines - where they have been for large chunks of the season - none will be fit to return for this game or the second leg either.
As for Atletico, they are on a mixed run. They come into this game off the back of three games unbeaten, having defeat Eibar and Getafe before drawing 0-0 with Villarreal on Sunday evening. Goals are proving to be a real problem as of late however, with them averaging just one per game in their last seven outings. Add to this their elimination from the Copa del Rey at the hands of Celta Vigo, and a huge loss to Barcelona in the title race, and it's clear Atletico aren't bursting with confidence at the moment.
On that domestic level, it's PSV who come into the game boasting the better form, on a winning streak of eight games in the Eredivisie. Their only defeats in 2016 have been a 3-1 loss to FC Utrecht in the KNVB Beker - their domestic cup - and a friendly defeat to Hibernians in the first week of January. Furthermore, they have not conceded a single goal in their last three outings; bagging seven goals without reply.
Neither of the two are seen as big challengers for the title this season either - PSV in particular - but both could use their underdog status to go far in the competition - just as Atletico did in 2014. They have good experience on the continent, sharing three Europa League titles between them and two UEFA Super Cups, and are part of the traditional line-ups of the big teams in their respective countries.
Despite their aforementioned great histories, these two have lifted the Champions League trophy just once between them - that being back in 1988 when PSV were crowned kings of Europe. The competition was still known as the European Cup then. Atletico did come close to lifting the trophy back in 2014, but arch rivals Real Madrid beat them 4-1 in the final after extra time.
The reverse was not as comfortable for Atletico, but they still managed a 2-1 win on home soil. This time, the goals came from another Portuguese international, Simão, and future Liverpool forward, Maxi Rodriguez. Their strikes had the side 2-0 up within 28 minutes, though they did have to do some of the nitty gritty work in the second period once Danny Koevermans halved the deficit two minutes after the restart.
Their trip to Eindhoven was an emphatic one, with a certain Sergio Agüero on target twice before half time in a 3-0 win. Portugal international Maniche, a former Internazionale and future 1. FC Köln man, would bag the third and final goal in the second half.
Their two previous meetings came back in 2008 in this same competition, with them meeting in the group stages of the 2008-09 campaign. PSV crashed out at that stage, finishing bottom of Group D with just one win to their name and five defeats. Two of those losses were handed to them by Atletico, who won both of their encounters as they finished second in the group to qualify for the next round.
Surprisingly, Orsato will be officiating just the third meeting between these two teams, with them rarely crossing paths despite both having long, illustrious histories that have brought them each plenty of success on the continent. Having said that, the two have missed each other during their successful periods - Atletico's purple patches coming in the 1960s and in the last 10 years, whilst PSV's came in the 1970s and 1980s.
Today's match will be officiated by Daniele Orsato, who is a regular in Italy's Serie A. Orsato has never met PSV as a referee, whilst his only encounter with Atletico came back in 2009 as he assumed the role of fourth official in their Champions League clash with Porto, which they lost 2-0. He is a regular as an official on the continent, despite not having met either of these two sides before, with this evening's clash to be his third in the Champions League this season, on top of two Europa League games.
