Manchester United's creative midfielder Shinji Kagawa is set for a return to former club Borussia Dortmund, for a transfer fee reported to be around £6.5-8million pounds. It appears that the Japanese international has been told that he is "surplus to requirements" by new manager Louis van Gaal; and struggled under David Moyes at Old Trafford last season despite his talent and obvious quality due to injuries and a lack of first-team action in the side, which made him disgruntled.

Valencia were among a few European clubs who were reportedly interested in Kagawa, but when manager Jurgen Klopp admitted that he would be welcomed back "with open arms" there was never really going to be any other side that he would sign for.

The official announcement is set to be confirmed in the next 24 hours, and it has been reported that Kagawa has already had his medical at the Bundesliga side and is about to sign a four-year contract deal with his former club.

Some of his former Dortmund team-mates have already reportedly confirmed the signing, including Marco Reus. It is an exciting signing for them, because he was instrumental for the side in 2 years he was there; his passing, vision, movement and contribution to the side was superb and earned him a move to what many believe to be the most competitive league in the world.

However, he struggled to settle and was not given the chance to prove himself - cameo appearances were not enough for someone of his ability who regularly sat on the bench while Fellaini and Cleverley were preferred to him

FACT: Kagawa only played a full 90 minutes in the Premier League three times last season.
