Reports suggest that Borussia Dortmund manager Jürgen Klopp has asked to leave the club in the Summer.

After a difficult season it seems that Klopp has asked the club to release him from his current contract which runs out in 2018. A press conference has been called by the club at 12:30pm BST this Wednesday to announce his departure.

Mainz 05 coach Thomas Tuchel, who turned down the Hamburg job during the week is the apparent front-runner to take over at the Westfalenstadion in the Summer.

It has been a difficult season for Borussia Dortmund spending the majority of the season in the bottom half of Bundesliga table and even time in the relegation zone as well as crashing out of the Champions League to Juventus.

They are back on the up and currently sit in 10th with an outside chance of reaching the Europa League, but it seems that the damage of this campaign has taken its toll on the 47-year-old.

Klopp’s representatives have already received several inquiries for their clients services since the news broke on Wednesday morning but no formal contract negotiations have been entered as of yet.

The German has been frequently linked with a move to the Premier League with; Manchester United, Arsenal and Manchester City all rumoured with wanting the talented coach in the past.

Klopp arrived at Dortmund from Mainz back in 2008 and has won; two Bundesliga titles, one German cup in a successful seven year period and reached a Champions League final in 2013 which they lost 2-1 to Bayern Munich.
