The DFB-Pokal has thrown up some interesting ties in the first round but none more so than on Monday evening when Eintracht Trier face Borussia Dortmund.

The fifth tier German outfit will compete in their biggest match for years and they will be looking to cause a shock against Thomas Tuchel's side, who are hotly tipped to come through this encounter without much fuss.

This is the first time that these two clubs will play each other which doesn't give the German giants much to go on but they are favourites for the game due to the pedigree of the team.

How does form compare ahead of the game?

The hosts have already begun their league season already but it has not gone so well as they have lost two and drawn one of their three games they have played. This tussle though gives them a chance to forget about that and show what they are all about.

Tuchel's side have had a long pre-season which has been mainly successful but they come into this game on the back of a 2-0 loss against Bayern Munich in DFL-Supercup last weekend.

It was a hard loss to take for BVB as they were the better team for large periods of the game but it wasn't meant to be.

Dortmund will take this competition very serious as they will want to go one better than being runners-up last season, when they were beaten in the final on penalties by Bayern.

Team News

Peter Rubeck's side go into the game with no crucial injuries or suspensions, which is important as they will want to field their strongest team for the game.

During the transfer window, Trier have made sixteen new signings with the most notable being 21-year-old defensive midfielder Danilo Dittrich from Wolfsburg. It will be interesting to see how many of the new signings start the game as Trier look to be compact against a very strong team.

Tuchel, on the other hand, will be without some very important players such as Marcos Reus and Erik Durm due to long term injuries. Dortmund will also be without Matthias Ginter and Sven Bender for the game as they are still in Rio for the Olympic games.

Tuchel though could give starts to new signings Mario Götze and André Schürrle who should complete a very attacking line up alongside Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Ousmane Dembélé which is very exciting prospect for Dortmund fans to see.
