1. FSV Mainz 05 finally got their first Bundesliga win of the season in the pouring rain on Sunday afternoon, defeating FC Augsburg 3-1 at the WWK Arena

Goals from Jhon Cordoba, Yunus Mallı and Yoshinori Muto ensured that at the third attempt of asking Martin Schmidt's side got their first win of the season despite going down to ten men before the end of the game

The goal for the hosts on the day was scored by Kostas Stafylidis but overall the performance from the whole team was not up to the required standard as they fell to their second consecutive defeat at home.

Cordoba put the visitors ahead early on

The visitors made the better start to the game causing the home side all sorts of problems with their attacking play. This led to the first chance of the game as Daniel Brosinski forced Marwin Hitz into a good save from the edge of the box.

The visitors continued on with their fast start and it led to the first goal of the game as a corner from the right-hand side was headed home by Cordoba in the seventh minute of the game.

After the goal, the game settled into a much more even contest between both teams as the home side went about looking for an equalising goal. The problem they faced though was that the visitors defence was standing very strong and stopped anything that came at them.

The visitors also continued to look bright on the counter-attack on a few occasions but just couldn't manage to get the final ball right in order to double their lead.

The hosts struggled to get going in the first half

The hosts struggled so much to get anything the first half Mainz goalkeeper Jonas Lössl only had to rush off his line once during the half in order to keep his side in the game but apart from that he was very much a spectator in the game.

The home side came out at the start of the second half much better as they pushed forward to try and conjure up an equaliser. They almost managed it on the hour mark when defender Martin Hinteregger controlled the ball well in the box and unleashed a good strike which Lössl had to get down well to save.

Just moments later they had another chance to get back on terms but Dominik Kohr fired over from close range from a good Raúl Bobadilla cross much to the disbelief to everyone in the stadium.

Stafylidis scored to get the hosts back on level terms

The home side finally got their rewards for their consistent pressure when Stafylidis unleashed a fantastic left-footed shot from 30 yards which fizzed past the helpless Lössl to get his side back on level terms.

Goals from Malli and Muto seal the win for the visitors

Unfortunately for the hosts, though, they weren't on level terms for long as the visitors went straight down the other end and Mallı headed in a cross to put his side back in the lead with so little time left for the hosts to get back on terms a second time.

It was made even harder for the hosts when the visitors scored a third six minutes later. A brilliant run and cross from Levin Öztunalı found Muto, who stabbed the ball home at the second attempt, to put his side out of sight in the game.

The hosts didn't manage to find a way back into the game but the visitors also didn't manage to finish the game with 11 men. A dreadful challenge for substitute José Rodríguez resulted in him being shown a red card.

It didn't matter though as it was the last action of the game which saw the visitors get their first league win of the season.
