After coming out on top of the Genoese derby on Tuesday night, Sampdoria boss Vincenzo Montella confirmed that the club wouldn't be exploring any potential signing of Giuseppe Rossi.

Speaking to Mediaset Premium, the tactician called Rosssi "phenomenal" but cited that the club "already have a similar player" in veteran goalscorer Antonio Cassano. Many reports had linked Rossi with a loan switch to the Luigi Ferraris but it appears for the time being he is staying in viola.

Montella "very happy" with derby win

"I am very happy for the fans and the lads" he started off saying. However, he made no secret of the fact that he was disappointed that the blucerchiati "lower(ed) the(ir) concentration levels" in the last ten minutes something he says, "can't" happen in Serie A. He did add that "it will serve us for the future" knowing they can't lower concentration as "there is always a risk."

Montella went on to say how he hopes Samp can improve "a great deal" and everyone at the club "knows that."

The former Fiorentina man was full of praise for Cassano who put in a stellar solo performance with a number of assists in the game. "He deserves to play, has great quality" he remarked.

He also went on to detail Eder being taken off was nothing more than a "precaution."

Misfiring Immobile linked

In recent days, Sky Sport Italia have linked the club with Ciro Immobile, whose performances at both Borussia Dortmund and Sevilla have been a farcry from those in his final season at Torino.

It is believed that they are targetting a six month loan deal possibly in preperation for the departure of a striker in the January mercato, namely Eder.

Massimo Ferrero has previously declared he "won't sell anyone" but will be persuaded to sell for the right offer and if "the lad wants to go."

Immobile has just 14 appearances in all competitions for Sevilla and has netted just four times this term. A move back to Italy may well serve as his best option if he wishes to be in contention for selection for this year's European Championship's in France.
