Bottom of Serie A, Hellas Verona are eyeing up a move for Leeds United defender Giuseppe Bellusci in an effort to secure them a place in the Italian top division next season.

Could Bellusci be leaving Leeds?

After conceding 27 goals in 17 outings, and failing to win thus far this season, the Gialloblu are looking to reinforce their defence in an effort to save them from relegation, as they currently sit bottom of the league with only eight points.

A number of Italian clubs are reported to be monitoring the 26 year old, after Leeds president Massimo Cellino told Sky Sports Italia that the defender would be allowed to leave the club if an offer of between £4-5 million was submitted.

Although the fiery central defender would prove a valuable addition to Verona's struggling squad, his club has suggested that they want more than the £1.6 million they paid for him in August 2014 if they were to sell him.

Since new manager Steve Evans took charge of the whites, they have only lost three games, with Bellusci playing in the majorit of them. Despite seeing a good spell of form with Leeds United this season, Bellusci has recently dropped in favour with the return of captain Sol Bamba. His side currently sit in 13th position in the Championship, only nine points off the final play-off spot.

Bellusci has been involved in professional football since 2006, playing in Italy for Ascoli and Catania, only leaving the latter after they were relegated from the Italian top flight at the end of the 2013/14 season. It is now being reported the Italian would welcome a return to his native country, with Steve Evans confirming that Leeds United have recieved and rejected two offers from overseas for the defender.

Phil Hay, the chief football writer for the Yorkshire Evening Post, broke the news on Twitter yesterday and he also reported that Evans wants the Italian to stay at Elland Road during the January transfer window.
