Former Lanús manager Guillermo Barros Schelotto will take charge of Palermo and will replace Davide Ballardini at the helm of the Sicilian club. The 42 year old Argentine will only be the third Argentine manager ever to take charge at the Sicilian club and will make his first spell in Europe for the first time ever.

Guillermo and Palermo

This isn't the first time Barros Schelotto has been associated with the name ''Palermo''. In fact, as a player, he played 16 years of his professional career in the Argentine Primera División, six with Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata and 10 with Boca Juniors, in which he was a teammate with players such as Carlos Tevez, Martin Palermo and Juan Roman Riquelme among others. With these two teams, he won a total 17 official titles (one with Gimnasia and 16 with Boca).

In 2007, Barros Schelotto left Boca Juniors for the Columbus Crew in the Major League Soccer, therefore having his first experience outside his native country which came in 2008, when he won the MLS Cup and became league MVP.

He also won 10 caps for his native Argentina on the national team from 1995-1999.
