Lazio midfielder Danilo Cataldi has put pen to paper on a new three-year deal with the Biancocelesti, the club have confirmed.

The 21-year-old's contract was set to expire at the end of next season but the Lazio hierachy have been swift in securing the services of the Aquile youth product.

Lazio confirm extension

"SS Lazio announces that the player Danilo Cataldi has renewed his contract with the Biancocelesti until June 30, 2020," read a statement on the club's official website.

Cataldi has progressed through the primavera ranks at the capital club and has netted several decisive goals for Stefano Pioli's side this term.

Although his opportunities have been limited through injury and the fluctuating form of the Aquile, the midfielder netted his side's second in their 2-1 Coppa Italia last-16 success over Udinese in December.

The Italian under 21 international was also integral to his side's resouding 4-1 victory over Chievo last month.

Cataldi edged the Biancocelesti ahead with a sweetly-struck volley midway through the second-half.

Juventus have been rumoured to be monitoring the midfielder's situation at Lazio.

Cataldi conveys delight

"I’m fine, I’m excited and happy," the 21-year-old told Lazio Style Radio after confirmation of his extension.

Cataldi beamed that he hopes to continue on this path with Lazio and recalled playing for the club when he was "tiny" and, now that he has turned 21, "hopes to continue until the end of my contract and beyond."

He concluded by conveying his happiness at the news.

The midfielder has accrued nine starts in central midfield under Pioli as Lazio have failed to recapture the attacking verve that characterised their historic campaign last time out.

The Aquile travel to the Marassi on Saturday evening to face relegation strugglers Genoa as they look to exorcise the ghosts of their midweek reverse against league leaders Napoli.
