Sampdoria may take the route of contract termination as a punishment for Djamel Mesbah who was involved in a drink driving incident Gazetta dello Sport say.

The 31-year-old Algerian, who reached the top level of football playing for AC Milan in the Champions League in 2012, was allegedly chased by Police around Genoa at 5am on Tuesday morning. After being caught, Mesbah is understood to have failed a breath test, therefore signalling he had been driving under the influence.

The player's deal is up at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris in the summer which will see his two-year-stay come to an end and with this incident, almost undoubtedly. Samp tried to flog the full back without success in the mercato but want to punish him severely for his actions with an early termination likely.

Mesbah has found playing time limited to just eight league outtings as a result of injuries. He made another appearance in the Coppa Italia but it looks as if any potential further outtings have taken a blow.

Second drink driving incident of the season

Mesbah's case is the second of it's kind in Serie A this season after Juventus centre half Martin Caceres was involved in another drink driving incident which lead to him crashing his ferrari into parked cars and a bus shelter in Turin.

Caceres was later fined by the bianconeri and temporarily excluded from first team action.

This was his third drink driving act while at Juventus having crashed in his native Montevideo aswell as into a Turin metro station.

The Uruguayan international went down awkwardly in Juve's midweek win over Genoa and was stretched off and seen to be in excruciating pain and it has since been reported that it is an achilles tendon injury which categorically rules him out for the remainder of the season.
