Shaun Murphy and Judd Trump took the final two places in the last sixteen of the World Snooker Championships with comfortable wins on Thursday.

Murphy went close to a 147 in the final frame of his 10-3 win over Robin Hull but he lost position and had to make do with a pink before missing the final red. The 2005 champion will now take on Joe Perry for a place in the quarter-finals.

Trump secured a 10-6 win over Stuart Carrington to book his place in the second round but he didn't have things all his own way on Thursday. Carrington was 7-2 behind from Wednesday's session and won four of the seven frames played on Thursday. Trump eventually got the better of him though and finished the match with a 109 break.

Also on Thursday the second round got underway with the opening sessions of Mark Selby v Anthony McGill and Ding Junhui v John Higgins. McGill matched Selby all the way in the opening session and after eight frames the scores were level at 4-4. In the other match Higgins went 5-1 up in his match against Ding but the Chinese star won the final two frames to reduce the overnight deficit to 5-3.

Friday's action will see Selby and McGill finish their match with sessions in the morning and evening. Ding and Higgins will play the second session of their match in the afternoon and there will be two sessions of Graeme Dott v Stuart Bingham (morning and evening). Completing tomorrows schedule will be the opening eight frames of Barry Hawkins' clash with Mark Allen.
