British number Heather Watson will be coached by the British Fed Cup Captain Judy Murray for the first part of the tennis season.

After parting ways with Diego Veronelli at the end of 2015 Watson is looking for a permanent replacement coach. Murray has stepped into the breach and will be guiding the Brit through the defence of her title in Hobart, and through the Australian Open.

Murray, who is mother to two Grand Slam champions (Jamie who won the mixed doubles at Wimbledon in 2007, Andy Olympic Gold & US Open in 2012, Wimbledon in 2013) also coached her sons when they were younger. The Brit is a good choice for Watson for the start of the tennis calendar, together they can get results with Murray being the Fed Cup Captain Watson knows her well already.

Temporary, only

The arrangement appears to be temporary for the first part of the calendar year, with Fed Cup commitments it may be difficult to make this a permanent arrangement. However it is possible as Amelie Mauresmo has managed to combine both captaincy of the French Fed Cup team with full time coaching of the British number one and world ranked number two Andy Murray. Will Judy Murray follow and coach full time the British number two, or will they part ways if Watson finds another full time coach? The possiblities are intriguing and impossible to know at this time.

The first thing on the minds of both Watson and Murray will be the defence of the title in Hobart, this will fall shortly after Watson plays in the Hopman Cup with Judy Murray's youngest son Andy, as  they will hope to take Britain to the final, although they missed out on reaching the final last year they will be hoping to build on the performance from last time around. Watson and Judy Murray currenly only have a short time to work together and improve Watson's performances from the end of last year.
