Agnieszka Radwanska started her 2016 in the same way she ended 2015, by winning a title. Beating Alison Riske in two sets, 6-3 6-2, the Pole topped off what had been a very solid win as she won the title without dropping one set.

Radwanska's route to the final included straight set wins against Aleksandra Krunic and Anna-Lena Friedsam. It was a very much expected title win for Radwanska with her being the elite player in the draw.

Radwanska too good for the field

In what was a close first set as both players held serve confidently, it was Radwanska who got the first break to take a 5-3 lead in the first set which proved to be vital as she went on to serve out the first set.

The second set started out much like the first as both players held serve again for the first half of the set. But much like the first it was again Radwanska who got the vital breaks as she served out the second set 6-2 to take her 18th career title.

Second title in a row

After surprisingly winning the year end championships in 2015, the expectations for Radwanska's year had changed. Looking forward to 2016, she will no doubt have her sights set on a maiden grand slam title, something which has eluded her so far in her successful career.

After falling short a few times, it seemed in 2015 that her mentality had changed as she saw many early exits in tournaments. However the year end win in Singapore appears to have reinvogorated Radwanska as she looks to get back to where she was.

Riske will be very happy with her start to 2016 and her run to the final which saw wins against Timea Babos and Annika Beck.

Next for Radwanska will be Sydney in which she will look to continue the form which has seen her rise back up the rankings in recent times.
