Garbine Muguruza made a third round exit to Barbora Strycova, losing 6-3 6-2. Last year's Wimbledon finalist went into the match as a huge favourite but did not play to the level that saw her get to her current ranking of third in the world.

After wins against Kirsten Flipkens and Anna Kontaveit in straight sets, Muguruza went into the match with confidence high, especially on the back of winning last year's Fed Cup.  However with Strycova going into the match on the back of wins against Caroline Garcia and Vania King the Czech also went into the match with expectation that she could cause a shock.

Breaks aplenty in a nervy start

The first set started with both players struggling to hold serve with Muguruza dropping serve twice whilst only managing to break Strycova once. After the initial breaks, there was to be no more break points in the set as both players held serve easily leading to Strycova taking the first set 6-3.

Heading into the second set, Muguruza served to start but unfortunately for the Spaniard she struggled to set a precedent for the set as Strycova broke, taking a huge step towards the win. Holding serve for the rest of the set whilst breaking once more, Strycova served out the match in style to secure one of the biggest wins of her career.

Azarenka up next for the victor

Strycova's reward for the win is a fourth round tie against Victoria Azarenka in which she will head into as the underdog again. However she will feel that if she can muster up another similar performance then she may be able to cause another shock.

As for Muguruza, after reaching the fourth round last year, she would have hoped for an improvement on last year. Speaking after the match Muguruza stated that the performance was "...clearly not my best, for sure, I just couldn't find the court, my shots."
