It was round two at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships and a certain Serbian was creating more history.

Djokovic sails to victory number 700

Novak Djokovic has become just the third active ATP player and 12th in the Open Era, alongside great rivals Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, to reach the figure of 700 career wins. The world number one eased past Tunisia's Malek Jaziri to extend his latest impressive winning streak to 17.

The Serb was runner-up here to Federer twelve months ago, but is almost certain to go one better on Saturday to win title number five in Dubai. Feliciano Lopez stands in Djokovic's way next, after the sixth seed defeated Lukas Rosol of the Czech Republic in round two.

Things much easier for 'Stan the Man'

French Open champion Stan Wawrinka had a much more simple encounter in his last 16 match, compared to his first round encounter with Sergiy Stakhovsky yesterday, which was his first ever win in Dubai.

He swept Croatian qualifier Franko Skugor aside to set up a quarter-final clash with eighth seed Philipp Kohlschreiber, who defeated last year's semi-finalist, Borna Coric. Wawrinka is scheduled, based on the seedings, to take on the almost impossible task that is Djokovic in Saturday's final.

Berdych to meet Kyrgios for the third time in 2016

Third seed Tomas Berdych will meet Nick Kyrgios for the third time this year, after the Czech number one came past Italian qualifier Thomas Fabbiano in his second round encounter, whilst the 20-year-old Aussie overcame Mikhail Kukushkin.

The pair's two meetings so far in 2016 have been split; Berdych beating Kyrgios in the 3rd round of the Australian Open. Kyrgios got his revenge and beat Berdych in the Marseille semi-finals last week on his way to his first career title.

Roberto Bautista Agut was seemed to be in a hurry as he needed just 54 minutes to dispatch South Korean youngster Hyeon Chung to reach his fifth quarter-final of 2016. The Spaniard, the fourth seed this week and a two-time winner on tour this year, lost just one game in a quick afternoon's work.

Just as comfortable was Cyprus' Marcos Baghdatis, who will be Bautista Agut's last-eight opponent. The 2006 Australian Open runner-up was also a straight sets winner against Vasek Pospisil.
