Heather Watson put in a dominant display in her first round match against Petra Cetkovska. Winning 6-1 6-0, the Brit was on court for a mere 48 minutes as she moved into the next round. The British number two raced out of the block as she etched a 5-0 lead in no time at all before Cetkovska held for what would be her only game in the match as Watson went on to win the next seven games to set up a tie against 20th seed Sloane Stephens. In a head to head which has a surprising amount of matches considering the pairs age, Watson leads 4-2 having lost the last two match ups. Post match it was confirmed that Watson is now working with ex-coach Diego Veronelli after the latter confirmed on Twitter.

Dominika Cibulkova survived a pulsating encounter against Johanna Larsson of Sweden. However, not one to sit back, Cibulkova fought back in the second set as she won the second set 6-1. Not holding up the Slovak continued her momentum into the final set, saving numerous break points as she won the final set 6-2 as she moved into the next round.

Bouchard bows out

Eugenie Bouchard suffered a disappointing loss as she bowed out in three sets to doubles specialist Lucie Hradecka. Looking to continue her great start to this year the Canadian dropped the first set as Hradecka served out for 6-4 after Bouchard missed many opportunities throughout. Bouchard fought back to take the second set as it looked like she might go on to take the third as well. However Hradecka bounced back to take just her fourth win of the year winning 6-4 3-6 6-2.
