The London Lions are continuing to prepare for there debut season in the Champions League with yet another signing ahead of the BBL'S return.

Chris Tawiah is the latest recruit, a 6'10" centre who was part of the Lions junior development scheme based in Milton Keynes, before making his debut in the BBL as an 18-year-old.

Well travelled

Tawiah then attended college in the United States following his time in the youth setup with the Lions.

He has also more recently had spells in Europe, most notably in the Czech Republic - where in the 2017-18 season he averaged 12 points and seven rebounds for BK Lions Hradec.

Tawaiah also spent a year in Austria with Oberwart Gunners before playing in Romania with Phoenix Galati last season.

The Lions will be looking to make a big impact when they venture into Europe for the first time this season and the addition of experienced centre Tawiah will certainly help.

"He is big, tough and will put himself about"

Lions boss Vince Macaulay shared the same enthusiasm about his latest signing, he said: “We had a particularly good group in Milton Keynes and Chris is an example of a fundamentally sound basketball player that can earn a living playing this game, here and abroad.

He has diligently focused on his career, and I am very proud that he can again suit up for the Lions and bring some of his European experience to our campaign, he is big, tough and will put himself about, shall we say, for the cause.”

"The team we have assembled this year is full of legitimately talented players"

Tawiah was also happy to be back with the Lions, he said this following the news of his arrival: “I’m really looking forward to getting this season started.

"The team we have assembled this year is full of legitimately talented players.

"Playing in elite European competitions is the environment I want to surround myself with and be amongst, and with Lions playing in the Champions League, it allows me to do that in the nation’s capital.

London Lions which once was Milton Keynes Lions is the club that got me into basketball and provided me the foundations to become the player I am now, so having the opportunity to play for them on the professional level is something that I couldn’t turn down either.”

Fans will be able to see Tawiah in action when the Lions face Lithuanian side Neptunas Klaipeda in the Champions League on the 15th of September.
