Worcester Wolves have announced their first signing for the 2020/21 BBL season, that being the return of their captain Maarten Bouwknecht.

This will be Bouwknecht's second season playing in front of the Wolfpack and looks to build on his success from the 2019/20 season.

Maarten is excited to get back underway and help elevate the Wolves to greater heights. 

"I’m very excited to be back playing for the wolves. Had an amazing year last season, and looking not only to repeat it but actually finish what we started. Very thankful for this opportunity, and cannot wait to be playing in front of the Wolfpack again"

This is the second announcement to come from the Worcester Wolves after they announced the return of Head Coach, Matt Newby.  

  • Bouwknecht in numbers

The captain returns to Worcester after dazzling in his first season, Averaging 7.1ppg, 3.1apg and averaging 36% from the field. 

Before moving to the Midlands, Maarten was turning heads in the Dutch Basketball League with side Heroes Den Dosch, winning the Dutch Cup in his first season. 

  • BBL Cup Final glory

Bouwknecht returns after leading the Worcester Wolves to the 2020 BBL Cup Final playing their season rivals, Daniel Edozie and the Bristol flyers. 

The team was lead by Maarten Bouwknecht assisted by Worcester's marquee players of that season, including Amir Williams, Jordan Williams, Kofi Josephs and Mark Hughes to name a few. 

The season peaked winning the BBL Cup beating Bristol in the process and looked to take their momentum forward, until the season was cut short due to COVID-19. 

  • Unfinished business

Worcester be looking to continue their momentum from the 19/20 campaign but will need the fire power to do so. 

The fans of the Wolves shall be hoping to see some more returns from last season, however some players have already jumped ship. 

Glasgow Rocks have signed Julius Van Sauers after impressing in his break out year, and Newcastle Eagles have signed Cortez Edwards after showcasing his talents as one of the best backcourts in the BBL partnering with Mark Hughes. 

Worcester Wolves will be looking to add more than just the BBL Cup to their trophy cabinet this season, going all the way trying to win the BBL Championship.
