In an F2 season that had seen five different Feature Race pole sitters in five weekends, it was all to play for in Qualifying this afternoon at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. Dan Ticktum was fastest in Practice and looked quick entering the session, but it was Callum Ilott who pulled it out the bag in Quali.

  • Championship contenders lock out front row

UNI-Virtuosi's Callum Ilott and PREMA's Robert Shwartzman currently sit in 1st and 3rd in the Drivers' Championship, and tomorrow will line up side by side at the front of the grid.  2nd-placed Christian Lundgaard had a tough qualifying session, finishing in P14.

Until this afternoon, Shwartzman's best Qualifying result had been P6, which he achieved back in Austria on the Styrian GP weekend. Starting in P2 tomorrow, the Russian will be looking to improve on the disappoint of last weekend, when he and his teammate Schumacher collided in the Sprint Race

  • Strategy for Zhou

Ilott's UNI-Virtuosi teammate Guanyu Zhou ended the session in P3, after an interesting strategy that saw him only joining the track for his first lap with 20 minutes to go. This resulted in him having the track to himself in his second and final stint round the 2.8 mile circuit, but he was not able to fully utilise this free air to snatch P1.

  • Top 10

The Brazilian Felipe Drugovich will sit alongside Zhou in P4, with Schumacher and last weekend's Sprint Race winner Yuki Tsunsoda behind them. Brits Jack Aitken and Dan Ticktum finished 7th and 8th, with Mazepin and Deletraz rounding off the top 10.

In addition to Lundgaard in P14, other somewhat surprising  results include Marcus Armstrong and Luca Ghiotto in 19th and 20th.

Tune in to the Formula 2 Feature Race tomorrow at 15:45 GMT to see that epic battle on the front row - it's going to be good!
