Since the year 2005 Roland Garros has witnessed a major and historical shift, as Rafael Nadal was able to lift six of the last seven French open titles leveling the all-time record of the legendary Bjorn Borg. Nadal has been building his own kingdom in Paris’ courts, but it is never an easy task as he will be facing the determinate ambitious dreams of those willing to stop the reigning era of the Spanish champion.

Novak Djokovic:

The record breaking world’s number one is eager to achieve a “Career Grand Slam”, which means winning the biggest four tennis competitions, the 25 year-old Serbian could be named on of these few players who ever win all four Grand Slam prizes.

Nole is also hoping to attain “Calendar Grand Slam”, as he will named the titleholder of the last four Grand Slams in a row, the player who had an extraordinary season in 2011 has been suffering some lack of form this season even with winning the Australian Open and Miami.

Djoker was able to overthrow Nadal in seven finals last season preventing him for holding both Wimbledon and U.S open titles, although this season with Nole’s inconsistency Nadal was able to beat him in both Monte Carlo and Roma finals. To make this even more entertaining Djokovic will be trying to reach the final of the French open for the first time in his career, as in France he suffered his first defeat last season at the hand of Roger Federer in the semi-final, a scenario that might happen if both players reached the semi-finals again this year, will the Serbian turn the table this time and reach the final, and who knows maybe win the race for the first time?

Roger Federer:

The Swiss Maestro ranked currently in the third position in the ATP ranking is on form with his magical touches as if he was still the world’s number one. He is the legend no matter how old he gets, he is always intensely present in all competitions with favorable chances to win wherever he laid his feet.

Winning the French Open was never an easy task for Federer as he was knocked out three times in a row facing Nadal from 2005 till 2008; his only triumph for Roland Garros came in 2009 after defeating the man who knocked out Nadal with abig surprise in the fourth round  Robin Soderling.

Roger Federer has shown some promising form this season winning Indian Wells and Madrid in its slippery blue clay courts beating Tomas Berdych, the question remains even with this quality can King Roger defeat his all-time rival Rafael Nadal, the man who defeated him in the final last year and who overpowered him five times since 2005? Can Federer finally regain the title for the second time?

Andy Murray:

A fierce fighter, yes that is what the Scottish-man is called, he loves competing in lengthy games with his incredible fitness, but the only thing missing Andy is winning any of the Grand Slam titles, Murray has been in three Grand Slam finals before but has never walked out with the trophy.

Murray can’t claim that he holds great records on clay courts, but he did reach the semi-finals in Roland Garros which could be considered an achievement as it is clearly not his favorite surface to play. The British 25 year-old did not show class this year but he always unleashes the warrior inside of him when it comes to Grand Slam competitions, putting into consideration that he will face Nadal again if they both reached the semi-final, will Murray come up with the astonishment of the year?

Off course there are a number of dark horses that could force surprises in the competition like David Ferrer, Tomas Berdych, Juan Martin Del Potro and Jo Wilfried Tsonga it will not be an easy job for any of them though to knock out any of the big four, except for Andy Murray as he could stumble due to his unpredictable form.

We will surely miss Robin Soderling who had a major impact in this tournament in 2009 and 2010 as knocked out two of the biggest names in the history of this game Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer, and we now take the chance to congratulate him and his lovely fiancé on their baby who will be born next September.

The tournament remains open to all expectations, as we will get to see some entertaining action on the Rolland Garros courts, the fans favorite Grand Slam tournament.
