It has been a week of action-packed tennis at the Nottingham Tennis Centre as players have competed for a place in this weekend's finals in both the Association of Tennis Professional's (ATP) event and the Women's Tennis Association's (WTA) tournament.

The standout performer in the tournament so far has without doubt been Brit No. 1 Johanna Konta who has made the semi-finals of the competition for the first time. However, many other well-known names such as Laura Robson, Heather WatsonLucie Šafářová, Sam Groth, Marius Copil, Thomas Fabbiano are all taking part in this weekend's final stages of the AEGON Open in Nottingham.

Can Konta beat Rybáriková to reach final?

Konta has impressed in the competition so far and has already beaten Tara MooreYanina Wickmayer and Ashleigh Barty on her way to tomorrow's semi-final. All of these wins have come in just two sets. However, Moore did have to retire in their Round of 32 match due to injury, which was not what either player would have wanted.

Konta's most recent win came today against Australian player Barty. The 21-year-old had impressed in Nottingham up until this point with wins against Tatjana Maria and Jana Fett and is currently ranked at No. 88 in the world. However, she proved no match for Konta as the Brit convincingly won in two sets, 6-3, 7-5 with the full backing of the Centre Court crowd behind her.

The only player now in Konta's way between herself and a place in Sunday's final is Magdaléna Rybáriková. The 28-year-old from Slovakia will no doubt provide tough opposition to Konta as she will be looking to upset the odds and make the headlines causing shock. She will come into this match as the underdog due to being ranked at No. 242 in the world but she has been ranked as high as No. 31 previously in her career.

Elsewhere in the other semi-final in the WTA's tournament at the AEGON Open in Nottingham, Lucie Šafářová will be taking on Donna Vekić from Croatia. The Croatian is currently ranked at No. 90 in the world and will be coming into this match as the underdog. However, she has shown what she is capable of in the tournament by seeing off Shelby RogersJulia Boserup and Maria Sakkari so far to set up this clash with Šafářová. However, it is the 2015 French Open finalist who will be fancied by many to progress into Sunday's final due to her experience and also due to the fact she is still ranked No. 28 in the world.

Heartbreak for Glasspool in quarter-finals

Unfortunately, the dreams of Brit Lloyd Glasspool were dashed in today's quarter-finals in the ATP tournament at the AEGON Open Nottingham. Israel's Dudi Sela sealed a 6-2, 7-6 win to set up a match with Romania's Marius Copil in tomorrow's semi-finals after he saw off Bjorn Fratangelo 7-6, 6-4 earlier today in his quarter-final match. This means that there will be no British players competing in the final four of the ATP Challenger but there will still be top quality tennis on show.

Elsewhere in the other ATP Challenger semi-final, Sam Groth will take on Thomas Fabbiano. Groth, who actually had to qualify for the main draw of this event last weekend, saw off fellow Australian John-Patrick Smith comfortably today with a 7-6, 6-2 win. Groth's lethal serve could put him in with a good chance of winning the title this weekend. However, Fabbiano will prove difficult opposition as he saw off Sergiy Stakhovsky from Ukraine earlier today with a 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 victory earlier today. Having to play an extra lengthy set could have an interesting impact on tomorrow's semi-final between the two players. Groth may try to take advantage of any tiredness by playing aggressively from the off.

Brit's bidding for doubles glory

There will be also significant interest in tomorrow's semi-finals in the doubles in what is a sell-out event at The Nottingham Tennis Centre. Laura Robson and Nottingham's very own Jocelyn Rae will be looking to reach Sunday's final as they come up against Heather Watson and Christina McHale. Rae and Robson beat Anastasia Rodionova and Darija Jurak earlier today in a match which was decided on a super tiebreak. They are aware of the quality which Watson and McHale pose as a doubles pair but are still confident of progressing.

Johanna Konta will also be taking part in the other doubles semi-final as she partners Yanina Wickmayer who she earlier knocked out in singles. The pair will take on Monique Adamczak and Storm Sanders tomorrow with a place in Sunday's final at stake.

Brits Neal Skupski and Ken Skupski will compete in tomorrow's ATP Challenger doubles semi-finals. They will come up against Australia's John-Patrick Smith and Matt Reid in what looks like a very difficult match.
