The lengthy transfer of Alberto Moreno has finally been concluded, as Liverpool announced the completion of a deal Sevilla left-back Alberto Moreno for a fee of £12 million.

The 22-year-old is the eight signing of the summer window, following compatrior Javier Manquillo through the door at Melwood after sealing the formalities of his switch and passing a medical.

An attacking left-back with plenty of athleticism, Moreno was a huge part of the Sevilla side that lifted the Europa League title last season and also made 29 La Liga appearances, scoring three goals as they finished fifth.

At Los Rojiblancos, he developed a strong relationship with the supporters and had a teary goodbye after the EUFA Super Cup final, which they lost 2-0 to Real Madrid last Tuesday.

A highly-rated Spanish international, Moreno has been one of the transfer targets for some time, and Brendan Rodgers was clearly happy to finally see him arrive.  "Alberto is a player with huge potential, but importantly he is also ready to come in and contribute straight away. He is quick, strong and serves the ball really well." said the Liverpool boss.

The Ulsterman continued: "We have monitored him in Spain for some time and every time I have seen him I have been greatly impressed. What is also important is that he is hungry to improve and recognises it is vital to keep learning."

Moreno has already began to establish himself as a potential left-back for Spain in the coming years, making three senior appearances for La Furia Roja and narrowly missed out on a place in their squad for the World Cup in Brazil.

Unfortunately, the Spaniard has not been registered into the squad in time to play against Southampton in the club's opening Premier League game, but he could feature versus Manchester City at the Etihad on Monday 25th.

Moreno said in his first interview with Liverpoolfc.com: "In my view, Liverpool are the best club in England and I couldn't waste an opportunity to come and play for them."

"I spoke with Xabi Alonso, Pepe Reina and Alvaro Arbeloa and they told me this is a spectacular club whose fans follow it in a very special way.

"They all told me I can grow a lot here as a footballer as this is a massive club. I'm very happy to be joining a club as big as Liverpool. I hope to give my best and do all I can to help."

The 22-year-old will wear the number 18 shirt whilst at the Merseyside club.
