After a transfer window filled with speculation about two of their star players, 1. FSV Mainz 05 announced the departure of two squad players.

Both Maximilian Beister and Niki Zimling have left the club on a temporary basis in a bid to gain more playing time.

Zimling heads for FSV Frankfurt

The experienced Danish midfielder has agreed a loan move to neighbouring FSV Frankfurt until the end of the season.

Zimling has not featured for Mainz this season and is in desperate need of playing time, having been without regular football for the last 18 months.

Central midfield is an area in which Frankfurt don't have an abundance of players, and a tough run-in will mean Zimling's experience is invaluable.

The 30-year-old is tough in the tackle and has a great passing range, which should help the FSV attacking players flourish.

Clemens Krüger, managing director at Frankfurt, told the club website: "We are pleased that we were able to borrow such an experienced midfielder."

Beister loaned in a bid to regain match fitness

Beister is another player who has been sent out on loan to get game time, as he heads for 1860 Munich.

The winger, who joined from Hamburger SV in the summer, is a huge signing for the relegation threatened Lions.

He has managed just a handful of appearances since joining, however, and niggling injuries have continued to plague his fitness.

When fit, Beister's pace, power and dribbling can turn a game on its head - that is exactly what 1860 will be hoping he can do.

"In order for him to make his way back to 100%, he urgently needs to get some game time.

"That's why we support his decision to move to Munich,” explained sporting director Christian Heidel to the club website.
