Kanbo

The beauty of the town of Kanbo can be appreciated throughout the length and breadth of its tree-lined avenues. The typical Basque mansions and buildings built in the purest Art Deco style are part of the landscape. Its mild climate favors an exuberant and in some cases even exotic vegetation. In addition, a set of gardens and avenues, decorated with beautiful hydrangeas, have given this town its recognition as a garden city.

Undoubtedly, Kanbo is a propitious place as a base camp from which to discover the rest of the Basque Country. Its interior offers quiet and calm, although just two steps away from the summer effervescence of the Basque coast.

Irun

20 minutes from San Sebastian and Biarritz and one hour from Bilbao and Pamplona, Irun surprises you with its peculiar history, its spectacular scenery and its wide range of culture. All in one.

It also invites you to discover the magical sensation of crossing on foot the International Bridge that unites the two countries and live their cultures simultaneously. Right here, put on a pilgrim's costume and travel back in time both along the Camino de Santiago that crosses the streets of Irun, as well as through the corridors of the Oiasso Roman Museum.

Other attractions are the rural houses in the middle of nature and explore the islands, beaches, meadows, marshes and forests that make up the Bay of Txingudi, along with Hondarribia and Hendaye.

It is also offered as a tourist destination to go with children and enjoy the family plans that proposes in addition to savor the traditional and popular Basque gastronomy through its pintxos after an afternoon of shopping in the more than 1,200 establishments with which the city counts.

Route of the stage

The second day of the Tour of the Basque Country brings a relatively short route for a flat stage. The peloton will start from Irun and will compete for a third category mountain prize quickly, at kilometer 20, and the remaining 140 kilometers will serve to give reason or hope to a possible breakaway to achieve a feat. Of course, it can be misleading the route with constant slopes that, although they do not represent major difficulty,  can cause  havoc in some legs. We will reach French territory at the end in Kanbo.

Summary of the previous stage

On the first day of the Tour of the Basque Country, Primoz Roglic won the individual time trial and proved his favoritism in this kind of races. Despite a mistake in the final part, the Slovenian was enough 12'34" to beat riders like Jonas Vingegaard and a Remo Evenepoel, suffered a fall, but managed to recompose his performance to be close to the leader in the general classification.
