It was a freshman coming up big for the Georgia Southern Eagles. Mike Hughes scored 18 points, grabbed 7 rebounds, and dished out 3 assists. Hughes would be a big part of the Eagles win. Jelani Hewiit (17), Angel Matias (11), and Curtis Diamond (12) were the other Eagles that finished in double digits. Three of the four players that scored in double digits were guards, 2 of which started, while the other (Diamond) came off the bench to score his points.

For Louisiana Lafayette, Shawn Long would be their best player. The NBA prospect would finish the game with 18 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 blocks. Frontcourt partner Brian Williams chipped in with 10 points and 5 rebounds. The only other double digit scorer for UL Lafayette would be guard Hayward Register who came off of the bench to score 12 points in ten minutes.

This loss would be the first conference loss for Lafayette as they are now 4-1 in Sun Belt play. Next up for the Cajuns will be the South Alabama Jaguars. As for Georgia Southern they will play the Troy Trojans.
