There is no more sensitive a time for NFL prospects than the week before the draft. Unfortunately for Shane Ray, a player already marred by the pre-draft process, he may have seen his first round hopes laid to rest for good.

First spotted by Brandon Kiley of KTGR Sports Wire Radio, a Missouri State Highway Patrol report shows that early this morning, a man named Shane M. Ray, 21, was arrested for marijuana possession. Because Ray possessed less than 35 grams of marijuana, he’s only liable to a misdemeanor under Missouri Law. If this report holds true, it would be a debilitating blow to Ray’s first round hopes.

Ray, who was unable to compete fully at the combine, posted relatively pedestrian agility times at his pro day, followed by the revelation that he was recovering from a turf toe injury acquired during his junior year at Missouri. Once upon a time, Ray was considered amongst the drafts top prospects alongside fellow edge rusher, Randy Gregory. Today, both Ray and Gregory must answer to a league who still possesses a zero tolerance for marijuana usage, and they’ll likely lose millions because of their untimely decisions.
