Amidst the recent Pro Bowl selection announcements, the Pro Bowl once again has proved to be nothing more than a popularity contest, as the fans do vote but the most popular names are selected rather than those who are deserving of the honor. This year, the St. Louis Rams have three players headed to the Pro Bowl; including rookie sensation Todd Gurley, hilariously proclaimed “MVP” Johnny Hekker, and defensive phenom Aaron Donald. All three definitely deserve the honor. But a couple Rams were snubbed.

NFC West foe Richard “I’m the best corner in the game” Sherman was selected to another Pro Bowl, despite a down season. In the absence of E.J. Gaines, Trumaine Johnson stepped up his game tremendously. Let’s compare Sherman's stats to Johnson's and see who should be rewarded.

Richard Sherman

Trumaine Johnson

 44           13        6           1            14

Of course teams probably threw to Sherman’s side less, but still, Johnson's stats are obviously better. There’s snub number one. Now onto number two.

Tavon Austin proved to the entire NFL world this season that he is one of the most dynamic dual threats in the NFL. He can do it all, whether that's lineup at wide receiver or in the backfield. When Austin gets the ball in space he's one of the most dangerous players in the league. He was also crucial in the Rams punt return game this year.

Up to this point in the season, Austin has recorded 44 receptions for 427 yards, 43 rushes for 390 yards, 1,055 total yards and 10 total touchdowns.

There really isn't a player to compare Austin to, but nevertheless he was snubbed. This is fan voting at its finest. Now fan voting isn’t too bad, but it makes the entire Pro Bowl a popularity contest and the big names are almost always going to make it no matter if they had a down year or not. Congrats and kudos to Johnson and Austin for fantastic seasons in 2015.
