It appears the New York Giants will be coachless no longer. Just over a week after long-time coach, Tom Coughlin resigned, the Giants are ready to make offensive coordinator, Ben McAdoo, the 17th coach in the teams long and illustrious history, according to a report from ESPN.

McAdoo, 38, has been the Giants offensive coordinator since 2014. It was his first two years as a coordinator as he previously spent many years as a quarterbacks coach with the Green Bay Packers guiding All-Pro Aaron Rodgers.

McAdoo's Staff

McAdoo will likely retain Steve Spagnuolo as defensive coordinator. McAdoo is rumored to likely bring in former Dolphins head coach, Joe Phibin, as the team's new offensive coordinator. Philbin and McAdoo worked together in Green Bay from 2006-2012.

McAdoo has helped the Giants offense be one of the most explosive in the NFL the last two seasons. Eli Manning also has put up big numbers in McAdoo's offense including a career-high 35 touchdowns.

Other Candidates The Giants Looked At

Other candidates that the Giants interviewed included former NFL head coaches Mike Smith and Doug Marrone, as well as current Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, and Lions defensive coordinator Teryl Austin.

In addition to those candidates, the Giants also interviewed others who already received NFL head coaching jobs such as Adam Gase. The Giants interviewed Gase and were very impressed with what they saw from him. While they never interviewed him, they also expressed interest in Hue Jackson, who was hired today to coach the Cleveland Browns after declining to interview with the Giants for their job.

The Giants' NFC East rivals, the Philadelphia Eagles were also very interested in McAdoo, which likely played a role in New York's decision to act when Jackson came off the board. Reports said the Eagles were ready to hire McAdoo as early as tomorrow. But instead it will be with the Giants that Ben McAdoo will get his first NFL head coaching gig.
