The Western New York Flash are on top of the world right now. In fact, they are tied with the Chicago Red Stars at the top of the NWSL table. After losing to Orlando Pride on May 14th, the Flash have reeled off three straight wins, with their latest win being a 1-0 win over Orlando last week.

Flash get midfield depth

This week the Flash acquired some depth in the midfield via trade. They made a trade with the Boston Breakers as the Flash acquired midfielder McCall Zerboni in exchange for the Flash's highest pick in the second round of the 2017 NWSL Draft.

Zerboni going to the Flash will be a reunion between the two as the midfielder played for three years with the club. She played in leagues like the WPS, WPSL Elite, and even the Flash's inaugural season of the NWSL. In 2015, Portland Thorns FC acquired Zerboni in a trade for Amber Brooks

She made 46 appearances for WNY and scored 4 goals in that time before the trade. Her stay in Portland was short lived as she only stayed for one year (made 18 appearances) before she got traded again to the Breakers. Once again, it was another package deal that Zerboni was a part of.

In Boston, she appeared in eight games and started all eight games in which she appeared in.

This trade certainly helps the Flash as they get another midfielder in Zerboni who can start in WNY's midfield. She could probably start alongside Samantha Mewis in the middle playing a more attacking role between the two.

In terms of helping the Breakers, the trade helps them gain another draft pick and it helps their salary cap situation. Trading away Zerboni opens up some cap space for Boston that they could possibly use later on or in the international trade window.
