sitting Sky Blue FC (3-4-4, 13 points) of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) announced today that it has officially placed forward Kim DeCesare on the 45-day disabled list due to a right knee contusion. At the same time of the move, Sky Blue FC has also activated forward Danielle Schulmann from the 45-day disabled list after recovering from a right thigh strain.

During the 2016 campaign, DeCesare has made three starts and six appearances overall, playing a total of 242 minutes and registering three shots. DeCesare is in her second year with Sky Blue. What is a knee contusion?

A knee contusion is an injury that results in bruising, swelling, and tenderness on or below the kneecap. Most contusions are relatively minor surface injuries, simply causing skin bruises due to broken blood vessels very near the surface of the knee.Depending on the seriousness of the injury, a person may have difficulty using his or her leg for several weeks or months.

Decesare will more than likely be available to return near the end of August when the NWSL season will resume. The team did not disclose how the injury occurred nor if Schulmann will be available off the bench in Saturday night's game against the Houston Dash. She has yet to register a shot.

What's next?

Sky Blue FC, sitting in seventh place of the standings, will host the Houston Dash, sitting ninth, on Saturday, July 9th. The game is scheduled kickoff at 7:00 pm ET and can be seen on the NWSL YouTube Channel.
