Everton begins preseason

This match marks the beginning of Rafa Benítez's era as the Toffees' Technical Director. The 61-year-old Spaniard is returning to English soccer after two seasons at Dalian Yifang in China and will be looking to lead Everton on a better path than Carlo Ancelotti was able to do in the previous season; the main task will be to qualify for European competitions.

Different format

It should be recalled that, apart from Everton and Millonarios, the teams that were scheduled to play were Inter Milan and Arsenal. However, these two teams dropped out of the tournament at the last minute, so they were replaced by Pumas UNAM and Atlético Nacional.

The format changed for the 2021 edition, as the final will be played in a single match between Millonarios and Everton. Everton vs. Pumas UNAM and Millonarios vs. Atlético Nacional, which will be played next Wednesday.
