They were more convincing

The current situation is far from what happened in the past between the two teams, so said Jerry Bengtson, a player who played against Mexico and even scored at the Azteca Stadium in 2013, also Gerardo Martino said of the goal-scoring teams.

"I do not know what can happen, Mexico has great players and I do not know why that is happening, because they are being difficult, they are well placed in the table, but other times they were stronger, more forceful, now I see that the games are becoming difficult for them at the Azteca, I do not know what is happening," he told Mediotiempo.

Chucky Lozano assures that they will move forward

Chucky Lozano and El Tri are committed to getting the three points no matter what in San Pedro Sula.

"We have to move forward and we have to play our best, even without him, because we have to give our best against Honduras and we have to make the most of the match," said the Napoli player.

20 times more expensive

Mexico's squad is almost 20 times more valuable than Honduras', as Hernán 'Bolillo' Gómez's players have an estimated price of US$11.9 million, while the Tricolor's squad is worth US$226.4 million. Honduras was affected by the absence of Anthony 'Choco' Lozano, from Cadiz of Spain, and Alberth 'Panterita' Elis, from Girondins de Bordeaux.

Marcelo Flores wants to go to the World Cup

The young Mexican Marcelo Flores, said for Cual that his debut with the National Team against Chile last December 8, will have clmk a nice memory.

"I would like to make my debut in the Premier League before I turn 19, that is my goal. And I would like to have my proper international debut for Mexico and, hopefully, participate in the World Cup in Qatar," Flores said.

They lost offensive weight

The Honduran Carlo Costly, spoke to RÉCORD about the Mexican National Team before facing Honduras, analyzing that the tricolor has lost offensive weight since Javier "Chicharito" Hernández and Carlos Vela are not in the team.

"What Mexico lacks is a goal scorer like 'Chicharito' or Vela; I see that they play good soccer, they have goals and do a little bit of everything, but they lack offense," said Costly.

Possible scenarios

CONCACAF qualification enters its final stage with the dispute of the last two dates. Canada, the United States and Mexico are shaping up to be the first places in the table and obtain a direct pass. Panama and Costa Rica are fighting for the playoff.
If Mexico wins in its visit to the Metropolitan Olympic Stadium, it will almost certainly be close to qualifying for the World Cup. If it draws and Costa Rica is defeated, El Tri will qualify to the highest soccer fair. But if they tie and Costa Rica wins, everything will be defined on the last matchday. If they lose and Costa Rica wins, they will be equal on points and the coin will be in the air for the final matchday.

Quioto tested positive

They did not recognize the field

Mexico faces setbacks during its CONCACAF qualifying matches, even more so when playing away, and Honduras is no exception, as the rain that has not stopped in Tegucigalpa cancelled the field inspection at the Metropolitano Stadium. The Aztecs were scheduled to train on Saturday afternoon.
4:37 PMa year ago

Change of stadium

After the rains in San Pedro Sula, neither the Honduras nor the Mexico national team were able to train at the Metropolitano Stadium, so they did so at the Francisco Morazán Stadium at around 6:00 pm.

Great reception

Without Tata Martino, but with chants of "We're going to the World Cup!" from the fans at the hotel, the Mexican National Team arrived last Friday night in San Pedro Sula to face Honduras. A small group of Mexicans were already waiting for them at the hotel, led by Héctor Chávez "Caramelo", a loyal fan who follows El Tri everywhere. The fans are aware that they will not be able to enter the Estadio Olímpico Metropolitano, as Honduras must serve a closed-door sanction game at their home stadium for the discriminatory shouting of El Salvador on January 30.
4:27 PMa year ago

Sanctioned

Due to the yellow card he received in the game against the United States, Chivas Guadalajara player Alexis Vega will not be able to see action this Sunday in San Pedro Sula.
4:22 PMa year ago

Win or win

Although Honduras is already eliminated, the whole country, including the players, have expressed their desire to complicate Mexico's qualification and that is what they will try to do this Sunday after also putting the foot down against Panama last Thursday.
4:17 PMa year ago

No pressure

Tata Martino's assistant coach, Jorge Theiler, acknowledged that the team is looking for a victory to try to qualify and denied that there is pressure to qualify this Sunday:

"The players know the situation they face and that we can enter the World Cup in this match. They are going to try to do things right. The pressure is like in any other Qualifying match. We are going to try to win the match. We are Mexico and we have to go for the game, but we must keep in mind that we have a rival in front of us".

4:12 PMa year ago

Mexico could be qualified

If Mexico can take all three points this afternoon, combined with defeats by Costa Rica in El Salvador and Panama in the United States, the Tricolor could clinch a berth in the Qatar 2022 World Cup this Sunday.
4:07 PMa year ago

Seize the opportunity

Although Mexico's visits to Honduras are usually complicated, this Sunday's game will be played without spectators due to a suspension of the stadium, in addition to the fact that the Catrachos will face some casualties due to the Covid-19 cases.

El Tri will travel incomplete to Honduras to face its penultimate match of the CONCACAF Qualifying Round for Qatar 2022, as coach Gerardo Martino will not be available due to health problems. As happened against Panama and Costa Rica, El Tata will not travel to Central America, as he still has problems with his right eye.
A few months ago, Martino underwent surgery for retinal detachment and it seems that the procedure was not completely successful.

Martyrdom against Honduras

Honduras is one of the complications for the Tri color, either because it is strong, fast and at times quick, or because it is hostile, complex and the pressure that may exist, being one of the most difficult matches that the Tricolor may have, the visit to San Pedro Sula. Having several painful encounters for the Aztec team.

Watch out for this player from Honduras

Albert Elis, 26 years old, is one of Honduras' best players, in the Nations League he got 3 goals and 2 assists, being a lethal striker who will try to give his team the 3 points and ruin Mexico's plans.

Borgetti analyzes the National Team

Jared indicated that Tata Martino is on a tightrope, depending on the way he plays, with two games left and it will be counterproductive, Borgetti said in LA Boom in Huntington Park.
Regarding the forward line presented by Tata in the qualifying round, Jared indicated that there is no attacking crisis in the Mexican team, but rather a crisis of results and good soccer.

"There is no striker crisis in the national team, there is a crisis of results and maybe of good soccer, which was practically lost in 2021. Before that, 'Tata' Martino had not had any problems at all, and it was accompanied by injuries, lack of playing time and obviously no matches".

How the octagonal table is going

The leader of the Final Octagonal continues to be Canada, despite having fallen, followed by the United States with 22 points, behind them the Mexican National Team with the same number of points and in fourth place is Costa Rica, three points behind. In fifth place is Panama with 18 points, followed by El Salvador with 10, Jamaica with 8 and Honduras with 4.
These last three are eliminated from qualifying for Qatar 2022, so Panama still has a chance to go to the World Cup.
3:02 PMa year ago

They extend their drought at the Azteca

El Tri was unable to get the three points against the United States after a goalless draw at the Azteca Stadium. Mexico has not been convincing on offense and in the three matches it has played at the Coloso de Santa Ursula in this 2022, it has only scored one goal and that was a penalty kick against Panama on February 2. In addition, this is the third time they have not beaten the United States and the third time they have not scored against them.
