They have scored 19 goals and conceded 15. The team is undefeated for two matches, and before that suffered two consecutive defeats, to South Korea and Iran.

Australia's opponents in the fight for the last World Cup spot will be either the United Arab Emirates, with nine points, Iraq, with eight, or Lebanon, with six.  

Five or six teams from the Asian continent are going to Qatar. In addition to the host country, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Iran and Japan are confirmed and Australia has secured itself a play-off against the third-placed team in Group A, which currently has the United Arab Emirates, but Iraq is in contention, as is Lebanon.
