The CanWNT played South Korea in their only international friendly but the game finished in a scoreless draw.

  • A quick start for CanWNT

The Canadians got the first scoring opportunity of the game in the third minute as Janine Beckie got a shot on target but right into the hands of the South Korean goalkeeper Yoon Younggeul.

15 minutes into the first half there were not many chances as both teams battled for space and openings. A minute later Canada earned a free-kick but Kadeshia Buchanan headed the ball over the net.

Jayde Riviere tested Yoon Yonggeul in the 25th minute but the keeper was able to make the save as the ball went right into her hands once again, and on the ensuing play Kailen Sheridan was forced into action as the visitors got a ball on target but she was able to grab the ball in mid-air.

After one minute of added time, both teams went into the locker room deadlocked at zero.

  • Canada dominates but can't finish

Bev Priestman made a change to start the second half bringing in Vanessa Gilles for Shelina Zadorski. Ji Soyun got the first shot on target for South Korea but Sheridan made a key save to keep it 0-0.

Canada made its second change in the 56th minute taking out Jordan Huitema for Deanne Rose. Canada was dominating in possession at this point looking to get the ball into the back of the net.

Priestman looking to evaluate more players made a double change in the 63rd minute bringing in Chloe Lacasse and Julia Grosso for Quinn and Riviere.

Lacasse tested Yoon Yangguel three minutes later but again was denied by the keeper who looked solid in the net. Canada made another change in the 75th minute taking out Adrianna Leon for Michelle Prince.

After three minutes of added time, the final whistle blew and the game finished in a 0-0 draw.

  • Coach reaction

Bev Priestman gave her general analysis after the game in her post-match press conference saying they were good but shouldn't worry about the lack of finish just yet.

" I felt at times we were good and at times we were clunky and I think it's a reflection of where we are right now as a team, it was our first game since April but I am not overly concerned and we just need to get our flow going into the tournament".

Player reaction

Janine Beckie echoed her coach's thoughts saying they know they don't need to hit the panic button just yet.

" It's just a matter of us coming together again and we have a short period of time in these windows to prepare and Bev had to make selections so there was minimal preperation for this game but I think we executed a game plan that we wanted to"

Canada will now travel to Miami to prepare before heading to Mexico to open the Concacaf W Championship on June 5th against Trinidad and Tobago.
