Jurgen Klinsmann revealed that 17-year-old Christian Pulisic is in contention to start in the United States' Copa America Centenario opener against Colombia.

The youngster has been impressive at all international levels so far and is now a candidate to start for his country on home soil this summer.

New Kid on the Block

The Borussia Dortmund wonderkid burst on the scene earlier this season and made his debut for the United States against Guatemala in a World Cup Qualifier back in March. The winger also made four starts for his club last season and earned a place in Jurgen Klinsmann's 23-man squad for the summer tournament.

Pulisic impressed many in his 27-minute cameo during the United States' 1-0 win over Ecuador on Wednesday night and Klinsmann told the media that the youngster is in contention to start in the Copa America Centenario opener.

Pulisic may be given starting role

Klinsmann said about Pulisic, "Everybody's in contention...It's nice to see a youngster like Christian having no fear, having confidence. It's also a confidence given by his teammates."

The 17-year-old was certainly a game-changer on Wednesday night and while fellow attackers Bobby Wood and Darlington Nagbe impressed, there are plenty of places up for grabs. The youngster himself spoke about the possiblity of breaking into the starting XI, saying "everyone wants to start" but he "just wants to be successful with the team.

Pulisic has plenty of competition for a starting spot in Jurgen Klinsmann's team but his coach said that while there are established players in the squad, it's up to the younger players to "come in and push them out sooner, or later. It's their job."

The United States welcome Colombia to Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara on June 3. Whether the newest American star starts or is on the bench, that remains in doubt for now.
