After leaving Greuther Fürth this week, it has not taken Domi Kumbela long to find a new club. The German-Congolese striker has re-signed with his former employers, Eintracht Braunschweig. The 2. Bundesliga side have tied him down until 2017.

A return home

Kumbela was the driving force behind Braunschweig's return to the top-flight for the 2013-14 season. He netted five goals in his first season with he club, before firing them to 3. Liga glory after scoring 19 times and adding eight assists in 38 games. A further 10 goals helped the Lions settle in the 2. Bundesliga and the following campaign saw him find the back of the net with regularly, scoring 19 goals to shoot them to the Bundesliga.

Despite his best efforts in Germany's top division, Kumbela couldn't prevent an immediate relegation back to the 2. Bundesliga and he then moved to Turkey with Kardemir Karabükspor. It was an unsuccessful spell, scoring just five times in 30 games, sparking a return to Germany. Fürth picking up the forward but things never really worked out between the two, but a return to 'his club' should see a sharp up-turn in form.

Arnold and Kumbela happy to be reunited

The 31-year-old, who will wear the number seven, spoke of his delight at the move: "I am very happy that it has worked, I've missed everything here. I know the stadium, Braunschweig and every blade of grass. I'm excited to get back on the pitch soon." Kumbela also admitted he wants "to build on previous achievements" and mentioned how "happy" Mirko Boland and Marc Pfitzner were that he had returned.

Marc Arnold, sporting director in Braunschweig, also gave his thoughts on the deal. "Kumbela was what we were looking for. A faster, more mobile forward to play through the middle," he said. "He knows the city and the environment around him. There will be no settling-in period. We are convinced that it is a good decision for both sides to work together for the third time."
