Eric Lauer vs Dodgers

The Milwaukee Brewers will send left-handed pitcher Eric Lauer 7-5, with a 2.93 ERA, to the mound tonight as he tries to end a solid streak. In five starts in September, Lauer went 3-0 with a 1.15 ERA and allowed no more than one run in any of the five starts. Something remarkable and outstanding.

As if Lauer's current good times weren't impressive enough, he too is 6-0 with a 1.89 ERA in eight career starts against the Dodgers and 2-0 with a 2.12 ERA in three career starts. Dodger Stadium.

It remains to be seen where Lauer will be placed by Manager in the postseason rotation, with a good start tonight against the Dodgers, he will earn a spot to play a major role in the MLB Playoffs.

October 1, 2021 9:37 PM ET

Kershaw vs Brewers

Left-handed pitcher Clayton Kershaw 10-8, with a 3.38 ERA, heads to the mound for the Dodgers in Game 1 of the series tonight. In 15 regular-season starts in his career against the Brewers, Kershaw is 6-5 with a 2.87 ERA. In four playoff games, three of them as a starter, against Milwaukee he is 2-1 with a 2.37 ERA.

However, the veteran pitcher has made just three starts since he returned, after more than two months out due to a sore left elbow.

Kershaw hasn't thrown more than 74 pitches or five innings in any of those three outings. He got the worst start to his comeback Saturday when he allowed four runs, three of them earned, on six hits in 4 1/3 innings in the Dodgers' unexpected 7-2 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks.

This is how the Brewers arrive

The Milwaukee Brewers enter this game with a 95-64 record, after losing to the St. Louis Cardinals, and throughout this 2021 season they have not distinguished themselves as a good offensive team, since their OPS of .715 is good for 20th place in the majors, according to data from the official MLB website.

They're scoring a good number of runs, averaging 4.58 runs per game this year. Looking at the last 15 days and to be precise their last 12 games, the Brew Crew have taken a step back offensively, averaging 4.08 runs per game with a .688 OPS in that stretch. Right fielder Avasail Garcia has done well on the diamond, as he has an .828 OPS with 29 home runs and 85 RBIs this year, while stealing eight bases in 12 attempts.

If Milwaukee can improve offensively, it will be a very tough opponent in the National League playoffs and it can go far.

October 1, 2021 8:42 PM ET

This is how the Dodgers arrive

The Los Angeles Dodgers have been one of the best offensive teams this 2021 season, ranking ninth with a .753 OPS so far this year. They have an All-Star roster that is scoring 5.04 runs per game this season.

They have demonstrated the ability to hit well at home, as they are scoring 4.9 runs per game with a .241 / .331 / .451 team bar line in all 77 home games. First baseman Max Muncy has done very well, as he has an .899 OPS with 36 home runs and 92 RBIs with two stolen bases in three attempts.

If the Dodgers keep hitting at this rate, they can put pressure on San Francisco and fight until the last game for the NL West title.

October 1, 2021 8:37 PM ET

Eric Lauer LHP #52

The Milwaukee Brewers secured the NL West and also have the second-seeded NL secured with a 95-64 record. They will send left-handed pitcher Eric Lauer to the mound who is coming off a win over the New York Mets, where he worked 6.2 innings and allowed a run on three hits with two walks and nine strikeouts.

Eric Lauer has been struggling quite a bit this season according to his official MLB page. His 8.3 barrel percentage is the highest against him in his career. Lauer throws five different pitches (fastball, cutter, curve ball, slider, switch) and his cutter has been the one that has received the most hits, since he has a batting average of .261 and a slugging percentage of .467 .

He already faced the Los Angeles Dodgers once this season and won with five scoreless innings and allowed four hits with two walks and three strikeouts.

October 1, 2021 8:32 PM ET

Clayton Kershaw LHP #22

The Los Angeles Dodgers have been trying to win the NL West for the ninth straight season, and are three games behind the San Francisco Giants with a 102-56 record thus far. They'll send veteran left-hander Clayton Kershaw to the mound to pitch, coming off a no-decision game against the San Francisco Giants, from the bullpen, where he threw a perfect inning with a strikeout.

Clayton Kershaw has been solid this season according to the official MLB website. His barrel percentage 7.1 was the highest of his career. Kershaw has an arsenal of four pitches (slider, fastball, curveball, switch) and his slider has been his best pitch, as he has a batting average of .191 and 107 strikeouts.

He faced the Milwaukee Brewers once in 2019 and went without a decision, as he went six innings where he allowed two runs and two hits with four walks and seven strikeouts.

October 1, 2021 8:27 PM ET
