The new partnership regarding global merchandising and marketing between NBA and Nike starts with the 2017-2018 season.

"This partnership with NIKE represents a new paradigm in the structure of our global merchandising business," said NBA Commissioner Adam Silver in the official release regarding the deal. "As our exclusive oncourt apparel provider, NIKE will be instrumental in our collective efforts to grow the game globally while applying the latest in technology to the design of our uniforms and oncourt products."

Nike and the NBA have been partners since 1992, and the company's rights will expand with the new agreement, making them the first apparel partner, that get their logo on oncourt NBA uniforms.

The Nike partnership will also extend to the D-League

The agreement also gives Nike an extended presence at the WNBA All-Star and other events, and for the first time Nike will become a marketing partner with the NBA D-League.

The Nike-NBA partnership will likely infuence many other NBA events, such as the NBA All-Star, Global Games, the NBA Draft, the Summer League and NBA 3X.

With the deal Nike takes over from Adidas as the official apparel provider for the NBA. Adidas announced in March that they wouldn't renew the 11-year deal, that was signed in 2006.
