After falling short in the NBA Finals, the Cleveland Cavaliers are trying to upgrade their roster anyway they can. They only have a few players under contract for the upcoming season and could offer Tristan Thompson a max contract. The Cavs have the option to re-sign Matthew Dellavedova but they could upgrade. It was rumored that former Cleveland All-Star point guard Mo Williams is “more than interested” in going back to Cleveland for a multi-year deal.

This would be a huge deal for the Cavaliers. The thing they need the most to help them contend for a title is outside shooting and depth. Williams shined when he started with the Charlotte Hornets last season and could easily be the sixth man on a playoff contending Cleveland team. He averaged 17.2 PPG in 27 appearances and even put up a 52-point game before he was traded to the Hornets. But it would take some money to do so because he can still be a valuable piece on any team.

Mo Williams played three seasons with the Cavs from 2008-11. He averaged 16.2 PPG, 5.1 AST, and 3.1 REB in Cleveland. With LeBron James, he was the starting point guard on a 66-16 team while being voted to an Eastern Conference All-Star selection in his first season.

The rumor came from sources close to the guard who informed Northeast Ohio Media Group. It’s also rumored that James would welcome him with open arms if the deal can work out.

Dellavedova emerged in the playoffs as a solid backup point guard. But Mo Williams is a significant upgrade who has more experience and is a 12-year veteran. If Kyrie Irving ever went down with an injury, Cleveland could trust Williams to get the job done. He is also a more reliable scorer and can be a great voice in the locker room. If the Cavaliers get the deal done, then expect a team better situated for a team playoff run.
