Quarterback Malik Cunningham threw for 2,734 yards with 18 touchdowns and six interceptions. Cunningham was also Louisville's leading running back with 968 yards and 19 touchdowns.

QB Haaziq Daniels, who is questionable for the game, threw for 932 yards with five touchdowns and three interceptions, and was the second leading running back with 705 yards and nine rushing touchdowns.

The First Responder Bowl is an NCAA postseason college football game played annually in the Dallas, Texas area. The Bowl was first held on January 1, 2011 and since 2014 it has been contested in late December. The bowl was held at the Cotton Bowl at Fair Park in Dallas through the 2018 edition.

Since the Cotton Bowl was being used for the 2020 NHL Winter Classic and was not available, the 2019 edition of the bowl was played at Gerald J. Ford Stadium on the campus of Southern Methodist University (SMU) in the nearby University Park, Texas. This year's game is also scheduled to be played at Gerald J. Ford Stadium in SMU.

Originally known as the Dallas Football Classic, it has undergone name changes due to changes in sponsorship. From 2011 to 2012, it was named the TicketCity Bowl in honor of sponsor TicketCity. It was then known as the Heart of Dallas Bowl when PlainsCapital Bank (2013) and Zaxby's (2014-2017) were its sponsors. Since 2018, the game has been sponsored by Servpro and officially known as the Servpro First Responder Bowl.

The Air Force finished the regular season with a 9-3 record overall and 6-2 in the Mountain division of the Mountain West Conference. The Falcons finished second in the division behind Utah State. In its last game of the regular season, the Air Force achieved a 48-14 victory over UNLV and also won each of its last three games.

Kyle Patterson will be out indefinitely, while QB Haaziq Daniels and all three wide receivers Micah Davis, DeAndre Hughes and Dane Kinamon are questionable for this game.

Louisville finished the regular season 6-6 overall and 4-4 in the ACC Atlantic division. Louisville ended the regular season with a disappointing 52-21 loss to the Kentucky Wildcats. The loss to Kentucky snapped a two-game winning streak for Louisville in which the Cardinals outscored opponents Syracuse and Duke by a combined 103-25.

Monty Montgomery and Braden Smith are out for this match, while Kei'Trek Clark is questionable to play.

The Gerald J. Ford is a stadium located in University Park, Texas. The stadium is primarily used for football games, is home to the SMU Mustangs college football team, and is frequently used for local high school football games.

The stadium is named after Gerald J. Ford, a billionaire banker who provided most of the funding for its construction. It opened on September 2, 2000 with a college football game between the SMU Mustangs and the University of Kansas. It has capacity for 32,000 people.
