Over the course of the last week, the NFL writers at Vavel.com split up the teams in the NFL and conducted a mock first round (with trade encouraged) with a long time limit between picks. This author, who in the interests of disclosure was in charge of the Steelers and Redskins, was tasked to grade the mock results and sort out the many trades done between the teams. Trades:

-Philly trades Sam Bradford, Pick 20, 2015 2nd round pick, 2015 third round pick, 2016 first round pick and 2016 2nd round pick to Bucs for #1 overall pick.

-Redskins trade RG3, Pick 5, and 2015 third rounder to Tennessee for #2 overall pick.

-Redskins trade Kirk Cousins to Arizona for a 7th round pick

-The Chicago Bears trade Shea Mcclellin to the Buccaneers for Mike Glennon

-Redskins trade Alfred Morris and Arizona’s 7th round pick to Arizona for Andre Ellington

-The Browns traded picks 12, 19, and 188 to Chicago for picks 7 and 71 picks in this draft

-Redskins trade David Amerson, Andre Roberts and a 6th round pick to PIttsburgh for Mike Adams and Markus Wheaton

-Minnesota traded Anthony Barr to Atlanta for a 2nd round pick and Randy Gregory

-Minnesota traded Matt Asiata, Mike Wallace and Falcons’ 2nd round pick to Detroit for Calvin Johnson.

-The Bills send Aaron Williams and their third round pick (81) for the Bears second round pick

The Bills have traded Percy Harvin and Chris Hogan for Baltimore's first round pick

-Bears deal Jaren Allen to the Chargers for their natural 2nd round pick

-The Ravens have traded the 4th round pick 122nd overall to the Oakland Raiders for Miles Burris

-Manti Te'o to the Buccaneers for Tampa and Philly’s second round picks.

-Minnesota traded Adrian Peterson to the Cowboys for their 2015/16 2nd round picks

-Minnesota traded Cordarrelle Patterson to the Jaguars for a future 1st round pick and Alan Hurns

-Minnesota traded Captain Munnerlyn to the Titans for a 4th round pick

-Minnesota traded Tom Johnson and a 4th to Tampa for a 3rd and Dashon Goldson

-Minnesota trades their 2016 1st and Tampa’s 2016 first to the Saints for #31.

-Three way deal: Chargers get pick #11, Tampa gets pick #17, Dallas’ 2nd round picks in 2015 and 16 and Chicago’s 2016 7th round pick, Minnesota gets Keenan Allen, Doug Martin a future first from Tampa and a 4th round pick.

-Arizona trades Tyrann Mathieu to the Titans for Dante Fowler, Jr.

-Arizona trades pick #24 to Buffalo for a 2016 #1 round pick and their 2nd round pick in 2015.

-Arizona trades Dante Fowler, Jr and Bills’ 2nd round pick to Chicago for pick #19 and their 2016 1st round pick.

-Arizona trades Kevin Minter and Jaron Brown to Tennessee for Jonathan Goodwin and Arizona’s 2nd round pick

-Arizona trades pick #19 and a 5th round pick to Tampa for pick #17

-Arizona gets Kyle Williams and a 7th from Chicago for Jay Ratliff and a 6th round pick

-Three way trade: Arizona get Jay Ratliff, Marquess Wilson and a 6th round pick from Chicago, Buffalo gets Michael Floyd and Michael Ola, Chicago gets Kyle Williams and Robert Woods.

-Arizona gets pick #32 from New England for Alfred Morris, Arizona’s 2nd round pick, 5th round pick and 2016 2nd round pick.

-Pittsburgh trades pick 20, Cortez Allen and Jarvis Jones to Miami for Dion Jordan and pick 14

-Pittsburgh deals pick 14 to Green Bay for Don Barclay, Carl Bradford, Josh Boyd and pick pick 30.

-Titans deal Jason McCourty to New England for their 3rds in 2015 and 16.

-Saints deal pick 31 for Vikings’ 2016 first, Tampa’s 2016 first and Vikings’ 3rd round pick in 2015.

Who do they end up with...

Philadelphia Eagles:

-QB Marcus Mariota (#1 overall)

Grade: B. Yes Mariota is what Chip Kelly is looking for but this is a massive gamble. If Mariota and Kelly’s offense flames out in the NFL, then you just gave up a starting caliber QB and your best three picks in this draft for nothing.

Washington Redskins

-QB Jameis Winston (#2 overall)

-RB Andre Ellington, OL Mike Adams and WR Markus Wheaton

Grade: B-. Bold move to swap RG3 and a 3rd to move up 4 spots for Winston. Winston is probably a better passing QB than RG3 is but his upside might be “Matt Ryan” and not “Tony Romo.” Flipping Alfred Morris, who is going to walk in a season for Andre Ellington saves this grade from becoming a C.

Jacksonville Jaguars

-DL Leonard Williams (#3 overall)

-WR Cordarrelle Patterson

Grade: B. Getting Leonard Williams is an unqualified home run. Flipping a future first for Cordarrelle “more return yards in 2014 than receiving yards in my career” Patterson seems like a reach.

Oakland Raiders

-Selected Amari Cooper (#4 overall)

Grade: A. Who knew that the Raiders would be calm through the draft. Cooper is great value pick for them.

Tennessee Titans

-QB Robert Griffin III, CB Captain Munnerlyn, FS Tyrann Matthieu, LB Kevin Minter, WR Jaron Brown

-Arizona’s 2nd round pick

Grade: C. The Titans loved trades and loaded up on young(er) vets in key positions. They are gambling that their two 2nds will yield them help on the offensive line and WR.

New York Jets

-Selected Vic Beasley (#6 overall)

Grade: B+. A quiet, smart draft for the Jets. Beasley fits Bowles’ defense extremely well.

Cleveland Browns

-Selected Kevin White (#7 overall)

-Chicago’s 3rd round pick

Grade: B-. They needed a WR for certain and White is a stud in the making. The price was extremely steep and wouldn’t standing pat and waiting to see what WR was available at 12 or 19 make more sense? If White flames out, the Browns will rue this draft as a missed opportunity.

Atlanta Falcons

-LB Anthony Barr

Grade: D. They draft Randy Gregory and trade him plus a 2nd for Anthony Barr. That’s very hard to defend, especially for Quinn’s system which invests heavily in defensive backs before they invest in LBs.

New York Giants

-Selected Brandon Scherff (#9 overall)

Grade: C. Scherff is a fantastic player who should be a long term starter in the NFL. But the Giants already have starting level players at RG and RT. It’s hard to see where Scherff plays unless the G-men are shaking up their line.

St. Louis Rams

-Selected Devante Parker (#10 overall)

Grade: C. Parker is an interesting WR prospect, but the scouts and draftniks have him as a late first/early 2nd right now. A- for targeting a need, D for value.

San Diego Chargers

-Selected Melvin Gordon (#11 overall)

-Tampa and Philly’s 2nd round picks.

-DE Jared Allen

Grade: B. Getting Melvin Gordon and two second rounds picks was amazing. Trading for Jared Allen, who dislikes playing in a 3-4 defense, was odd.

Minnesota Vikings

-DE Randy Gregory

-WR Calvin Johnson.

-2016 1st round pick from the Jaguars and Alan Hurns III

-Titans’ 4th round pick

-Tampa’s 3rd round pick and S Dashon Goldson

-DE/LB Bud Dupree (31st overall)

-WR Keenan Allen, RB Doug Martin, 2016 1st from Tampa and Tampa’s 4th round pick.

Grade: C. Getting Keenan Allen and Calvin Johnson, no matter how fanciful the deals were, was amazing. Getting Dupree and Randy Gregory when you have Everson Griffen in place was bizarre.

Chicago Bears

-Selected Danny Shelton (#12 overall)

-Selected Dorian Green-Beckham (#22 overall)

-OLB Dante Fowler, Jr, WR Robert Woods, QB Mike Glennon, DB Aaron Williams

Grade: A-. They gave up a ton of future picks to make this haul happen. But getting Shelton, Fowler Jr, DGB and Woods in one fell swoop was nothing but amazing.

New Orleans Saints

-Selected Trae Waynes (#13 overall)

-Vikings’ 2016 first, Tampa’s 2016 first and Vikings’ 3rd round pick in 2015.

Grade: A. The window has basically closed for the Saints. But getting Waynes now and two more firsts in 2016 means that they’re ready for that rebuild.

Miami Dolphins:

-Trades for the Bears 2nd round picks in 2015 and 16.

-CB Cortez Allen and LB Jarvis Jones

Grade: A. Dealing from 14 to 22 to out of the first round, the Dolphins had to maximize their impact in other ways. Ending up with three second round picks, Cortez Allen and Jarvis Jones means that they can get “best player available” in that round.

Green Bay Packers

-Selected Shane Ray (#14 overall).

Grade: B. The Pack shipped off some unneeded players to the Steelers to move up for Ray. Ray might be stiff in the hips and more fit for a 4-3 defense, but at worst the Pack are getting a better version of Nick Perry and can move Perry inside.

San Francisco 49ers

-Selected Ronald Darby (#15 overall).

Grade: B+. Maybe not great overall value here, but Darby is moving up draft boards and the 49ers need a starting caliber CB in the worst way.

Houston Texans

-Selected L'ael Collins (#16 overall)

Grade: B. Collins is a solid if unsexy pick. The Texans will slide him inside where he’s more natural and solidify the interior line.

Arizona Cardinals

-Selected Todd Gurley (#17 overall)

-Selected Owamagbe Odighizuwa (#32 overall)

-QB Kirk Cousins, DL Kyle Williams, WR Marquess Wilson

-Tennessee’s 2nd round pick

-Chicago’s 6th and 7th round picks, Chicago’s 2016 1st and 2nd round picks

Grade: C. The Cards were active up and down the trade market but at the end of the day they added Gurley, Obdighizuwa and Cousins for Ellington, Michael Floyd, Tyrann Mathieu and Kevin Minter. Odighizuma is a good pick for their defense, but they gave up a lot for Todd Gurley (who won’t be 100% until 2016) and hoping that Kirk Cousins can stop staring down his WRs. If Palmer goes down again and Daryl Washington doesn't come back from his suspension in the All-Pro form he had, Arians’ job might be in trouble.

Kansas City Chiefs

-Selected Ereck Flowers (#18 overall)

Grade: A. Flowers is a quality OT prospect going to a team that need an upgrade at RT. Worst comes to worst he slides inside and starts at OG.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

-Selected Cameron Erving (#19 overall)

-Selected Jaelen Strong (#20 overall)

-DL Shea Mcclellin, LB Manti Te’o, QB Sam Bradford

Grade: A. Tampa moved up and down the draft board but settled down into a great draft. The only mark down is for taking Jaelen Strong over a DB or LT.

Cincinnati Bengals

-Selected Breshad Perriman (#21 overall)

Grade: B. This author thinks that Perriman is a workout warrior who had the benefit of a sticky stopwatch at his pro day. On the field, he makes far too many mistakes. However, with AJ Green drawing away the main coverage, Perriman could be very effective.

Detroit Lions

-Selected Jalen Collins (#23 overall)

Matt Asiata, Mike Wallace and Falcons’ 2nd round pick

Grade: D. Dealing Calvin Johnson for two spare parts and a high 2nd is jarring. Jalen Collins isn’t a bad prospect but seems like a reach there.

Buffalo Bills

-Selected Eric Kendricks (#24 overall)

-Selected Jake Fisher (#26 overall)

-WR Michael Floyd and OG Michael Ola

Grade: B+. They gave up some future picks but came out of the draft with some real good pieces. Kendricks replaces Alonso and can play in a 4 LB set. Fisher is an improvement for them on their line. After dealing Percy Harvin, Michael Floyd is a good replacement.

Carolina Panthers

-Selected D.J. Humphries (#25 overall)

Grade: A. If they want to keep Cam Newton, they have to protect him. Even after acquiring Jon Martin and Michael Oher, they need a real mobile LT. Humphries is a good, tough prospect.

Dallas Cowboys

-Selected Malcolm Brown (#27 overall)

-RB Adrian Peterson

Grade: B+. Peterson cost them a lot to acquire, but he should be great for them. Malcolm Brown is a very underrated prospect that should slide in well in their defensive starting lineup.

Denver Broncos

-Selected Maxx Williams (#28 overall)

Grade: B-. Williams is as good a TE prospect in this draft and can block and receive well. They like Virgil Green but didn’t commit a lot of cash to him. Even if he pans out, Kubiak loves to use multiple TE sets. The only question is one of value here. They could have taken him in the 2nd round or someone similar to him in terms of production/play.

Indianapolis Colts

-Selected Landon Collins (#29 overall)

Grade: B. They needed to replace Laron “the Needle” Landry. And with Mike Adams in place, Collins won’t be asked to do everything.

Pittsburgh Steelers

-LB Carl Bradford, LB Dion Jordan, OT Don Barclay, WR Andre Roberts, CB David Amerson and DT Josh Boyd

-Selected Byron Jones (#30 overall)

Grade: B. The Steelers, contrary to their nature deal up to 14 then dealt back to 30 to pick up badly needed starters at multiple places. Byron Jones is a workout warrior who has natural cover skills but they still don’t have a strong safety in place to replace Polamalu.

New England:

- Arizona’s 2nd round pick, 5th round pick and 2016 2nd round pick.

-RB Alfred Morris, CB Jason McCourty

Grade: B-. McCourty and Morris are interesting veterans to throw into their lineup. They love to deal for future picks, so they should be happy to pick up a future second.

Baltimore Ravens

-WR Percy Harvin, LB Miles Burris, WR Chris Hogan

Grade: B+. In the real world, they could afford Percy Harvin into their cap situation and with their new belief in character, it seems unlikely that they would put Harvin and Steve Smith in the same locker room together. But on paper it looks great.
