When the Green Bay Packers drafted a wide receiver in the third round of the 2015 NFL Draft, little did they know that Jordy Nelson was going to go down with an ACL tear in the second game of their preseason schedule. But that's why smart teams and Ted Thompson like to take the best player available at every slot in the draft. So with the 94th pick, they selected the former Stanford Cardinal star in Ty Montgomery.

Now, the cheeseheads were all buzzing wondering who was going to take over for the former Kansas State Wildcats sensation. Many people, including yours truly, thought that it would be a strong possibility that they would give the snaps to Jeff Janis. But, in what could be considered a bold move by Mike McCarthy, they are leaning toward Ty Montgomery as they put him across the field from Davante Adams to start Tuesday's practice, with Randall Cobb in the slot position. Both of them would likely be expected in a five wide situation, with tight end Richard Rodgers taking the final spot. There would be very little to expect about what Janis's role could be on the team in the future if he hasn't learned the Packers offense after being on the roster for over a year. Plus, he definitely has a major size advantage over Montgomery. It's quite possible that Montgomery is just a smarter player as he did play Division I college football and went to Stanford, a place that is not easy to get a degree from.

The Green Bay Packers will take on the Philadelphia Eagles on Saturday at 8 PM ET. From there it will be an adventure to see if Ty is able to come in and swoop the position away from the incumbent Janis. But, if there is any doubt, it is going to be two strong draft picks going up against each other, but Montgomery definitely has it all against him as he has had to learn the playbook and get Aaron Rodgers' trust.
