After a dominating win against one of the hottest teams in Major League Soccer last Saturday, the Colorado Rapids traveled to Foxborough, MA to take on the coldest team, the New England Revolution. The Rapids have struggled on the road this season going 0-4-2 in their previous six road games before Wednesday night. A win for the Rapids would jump them into second in the Western Conference but they would have to deal with missing their leading goal scorer, Deshorn Brown, once again.

In the 10th minute, New England got on the board first when Drew Moor deflected the ball into his own net. On a shot that most likely would have gone wide, Moor tried to come into the middle of the field and close up space. Unfortunately for him and Colorado, Lee Nguyen's shot went off his boot and past a frozen Clint Irwin

With the exception of Edson Buddle and Gaby Torres looking like they were connecting well, the rest of Colorado seemed lost and unfocused. With Dillon Powers and Vicente Sanchez starting on the bench the Rapids were losing the midfield battle. Rookie Jared Watts showed that he still has a lot to learn about the pace and style of MLS play. Kamani Hill seemed to struggle as well but the big difference in midfield play was the lack of creativeness and ability to connect with Buddle and Torres.

Halftime would come as a relief to the Rapids. New England battered them all first half. With the lack of form from the midfield and defense the Revolution were dominating play up and down the field. If Colorado had any hope they would need to get some first lit under them at halftime.

No changes were made for either team at the start of the half, but in the 57th minute Dillon Powers came on for Jared Watts. Powers has shown that he has the ability to control the midfield for Colorado, which they hoped he would be able to bring for the remaining 30+ minutes.  In the 63rd minute Colorado would bring on Dillon Serna for Kamani Hill, in hopes that he would be able to bring the creativeness that the Rapids had been lacking all game.

The Rapids would use their last sub just a couple minutes later when Vicente Sanchez would come on for Gaby Torres. Sanchez is second on the team in goals and has proven to be the most creative and dangerous player on the team. Shortly after coming on the field the Rapids had their best chance of the night when Buddle was able to drop the ball to Powers, who in turn was able to strike the ball from the top of the 18. Unfortunately it was right at Bobby Shuttleworth and all for naught.

In the 74th minute Rapids defender Thomas Piermyer picked up his second yellow card of the game, which would force Colorado to play a man down the rest of the way. Clint Irwin would pick up a yellow as well for dissention.

New England would capitalize on the costless kick when Nguyen took the kick over the wall and bent it into the side of the net. Colorado would completely break down after that. The Revolution would get a third goal on a defensive breakdown in the 78th minute when Kelyn Rowe found himself 1-on-1 with Chris Klute.

Colorado showed no real signs of urgency during the whole game, which allowed New England to dictate the pace and style of play. With their lackluster midfield and defensive play the Rapids had very little chance in the game. Colorado heads home for a big rivalry match against Real Salt Lake on Saturday. From here on out the Rapids will need to step up their game across the board.

With seven games left on the road this season, Colorado will need to find a way to fix their road woes. Colorado is 2-5-3 on the road this season. If they are unable to fix their road troubles they will struggle to even make the playoffs, let alone compete.
