The Philadelphia Union announced on Saturday that Warren Creavalle has re-signed with the club. Due to Major League Soccer rules, the terms of the deal were not made public.

"Warren is a versatile player who has a great deal of experience in our league," Philadelphia Union Sporting Director Earnie Stewart said in a press release. "His ability to adapt to several positions and his work ethic make him a valuable player to have on our roster."

Late season acquisition in 2015

Philadelphia acquired Creavalle last August from Toronto FC for a 2016 second round MLS SuperDraft pick. In his short stint with the Union last season, Creavalle played in five games with two starts. Overall, in 2015, Creavalle played in 19 games, with 10 starts, where he tallied one goal and one assist in 896 minutes played.

History in the league

Creavalle first came into the league in 2012, when the Houston Dynamo drafted him with the 37th overall pick in the SuperDraft. The Georgia native attended University of Central Florida for two years and Furman University for two years in his college career. In college, Creavalle played in 73 games, where he recorded eight goals and added 10 assists.

Creavalle will certainly be a key player for the Union coming into the 2016 season because of his versatility. The 25 year-old can play right fullback as well as central defensive midfielder.

In August, when he was acquired, Philadlephia Union Technical Director Chris Albright said, "Warren's versatility will be a great addition to our group… He's a young player who has played a lot of games in our league and we look forward to him contributing immediately."

After the Union went defense-heavy with their selections in this month’s MLS SuperDraft, Creavalle will be able to provide Head Coach Jim Curtin with a veteran backup at right back and at central defensive midfielder, if injuries should arise in the squad or the rookies are performing in an unsatisfactory manner.
