The Philadelphia Union set several franchise records as they routed D.C. United 7-0 at Subaru Park.

A hat-trick by Julian Carranza as well as a pair by captain Alejandro Bedoya and Mikael Uhre gave the Union their biggest margin of victory as well as most goals scored in a single match.

Story of the match

It didn't take Philadelphia long to go in front as after just nine minutes, the ball was cycled to Jose Martinez, who lofted a perfect pass to Bedoya, who notched his 20th goal in a Union shirt.

A second came through a corner as Jack Elliott missed on a shot, but the ball bounced to Carranza, who unleashed a spectacular bicycle kick that left D.C. goalkeeper Rafael Romo with no chance.

Nathan Harriel should have added a third, beating everyone and closing in on an empty net, but he somehow missed.

Moments later, it was three. Daniel Gazdag played Leon Flach down the side of the box and he crossed and making a searing run, Carranza deflected home to bag his brace.

Set-pieces continued to play a key role for the hosts, this one a free-kick by Kai Wagner into the box where Bedoya was making a near-post run, getting just enough with his head to beat Romo in the far corner.

Minutes later, Gazdag was hauled down by Brendan Hines-Ike, but referee Ted Unkel waved away the protests and VAR was never consulted.

In first-half stoppage time, Gazdag passed to Uhre, causing Donovan Pines to fall and the Dane added a smooth finish as the Union tied the MLS record for most goals in a first half.

D.C. United had a few chances to begin the second half, Andre Blake stretching to make a save early in the half, then added a point-blank stop on the ensuing corner kick. He stopped Taxi Fountas again in the 55th minute.

Four minutes later, it was six as Julian Gressel sent a cross from Harriel into the sky that fell to Uhre near the corner of goal, his first-time finish going through the legs of Romo.

A handball gave the Union a penalty in the 69th minute, but Romo stretched out to stop Carranza.

Minutes later, he would complete his hat-trick and the scoring as he curled a shot from 15 yards away that eluded Romo. His header in the 75th minute just flew over the crossbar.

Man of the match: Julian Carranza

In desperate need of offense outside of Gazdag, the on-loan Miami striker stepped up and had his finest game with Philadelphia. Combine that with Uhre's brace and the Union offense becomes all the more lethal.
