Birmingham City duo Demarai Gray and David Cotterill have both been forced to sit out of their respective international fixtures after pulling up with injuries

Gray misses out due to tight groin

After making a promising debut in the summer Toulon tournament, hot property Gray was set to link up with Keith Downing's England u20s for the Mercedez-Benz Elite Cup tournament  in Germany during the domestic football hiatus.

The 19-year-old complained of a tight groin during the Blues 2-0 victory away to Leeds United on Saturday. Prior to pulling up the youngster gave the visting side the lead on the half hour mark.

Following consultation between representatives from both England and Birmingham City, it has been decided that Gray will not travel with Downing's squad as a predominantly precautionary measure.

Nevertheless, Gray's Birmingham team mate Reece Brown will travel to Germany where England face fixtures with the Netherlands, Turkey and the hosts Germany in the competition which will take place in the towns of Ulm and Heidenheim.

Cotterill injury more serious

For Cotterill, the injury appears to be a little more serious as a damaged hamstring forced the winger to withdraw from proceedings early at Elland Road.

The injury has already made Cotterill a doubt for Birmingham's next SkyBet Championship fixture at home to QPR, and already ruled the Welsh international out of his nation's crucial Euro 2016 Qualifying matches at home to Andorra and away to Bosnia and Herzegovina

The Dragons need just one more victory to book their place in France next summer, in what would be  first major tournament in 60 years for Chris Coleman's Wales.

There has been no exact timeframe disclosed as to when the 27-year-old will return to action but Gray will likely be fighting fit for the game with QPR.
