Bournemouth vs MK Dons Prediction
Both sides enter the tie with one win and two defeats in pre-season.
Those results don't give much indication of how this game will go but Bournemouth are no doubt the favourites.
The Dons have players capable of causing Scott Parker's men problems but I think they will ultimately fall short.
Prediction: Bournemouth 2-1 MK Dons.
Previous meetings
The last meeting between these sides was in the second round of this competition in 2018.
Bournemouth were 3-0 winners on that occasion, with goals from Lys Mousset, Ryan Fraser and Jordon Ibe.
They have met 13 times in total, and the Cherries have won six to Mk Dons' four.
Key player for MK Dons
The Dons' key man is summer signing Scott Twine. He joined the club after his contract expired with Swindon Town, who received a compensation fee due to him being under 24.
The 22-year-old spent the first half of last season at League Two side Newport County, before returning to Swindon in January.
In total, he scored 14 goals last season and provided 10 assists.
The midfielder has already found the net twice for his new club, both coming in the 3-1 friendly win against King's Lynn.
Key player for Bournemouth
Bournemouth's key man for this fixture is Dominic Solanke.
He joined the Cherries from Liverpool in 2019 for a reported fee of £19 million.
The striker struggled for goals during their time in the top-flight, but netted 15 Championship goals last season and provided eight assists.
The 23-year-old has also scored twice in their three pre-season friendlies.
Probable MK Dons line-up
Russell Martin has lost his two top scorers from last season, with Scott Fraser and Cameron Jerome both leaving the club.
They have recruited players capable of replacing those goals though. Forwards Max Watters, Troy Parrott and Mo Eisa have arrived at Stadium MK this summer and will be hoping to contribute towards a promotion push.
For this game, they will be without the injured Andrew Fisher and Josh McEachran, who is recovering from Covid-19.
Possible starting XI: Ravizzoli; Watson, Darling, O'Hora, Baldwin, Harvie; O'Riley, Kasumu, Twine; Watters, Eisa.
Probable Bournemouth line-up
After the departure of Asmir Begovic to Everton, Mark Travers is set to start the season in goal for Bournemouth.
Scott Parker will be without star man Arnaut Danjuma for the tie, as well as Leeds United loanee Leif Davis.
Jefferson Lerma is also injured, while Chris Mepham serves his one-match ban following his dismissal against Brentford in the play-offs.
Junior Stanislas will be in the squad following his injury.
Possible starting XI: Travers; Stacey, Ibsen Rossi, Kelly, Smith; Kilkenny, Marcondes; Brooks, Billing, Taylor; Solanke.
MK Dons out to upset the odds
The Dons enter the game as underdogs against strong Championship opposition.
Last season they were knocked out at this stage by Coventry City.
Can they get one over on a team from the division above this time? You'll find out here on Vavel!
Bournemouth looking to progress further this time around
The Cherries entered the competition in the second round last season and beat Premier League side Crystal Palace on penalties.
Next up was a trip to eventual winners of the competition, Manchester City. Phil Foden scored the winner as Pep Guardiola's men won the tie 2-1.
Can Bournemouth go further this time around? They will be confident of reaching round two against League One opposition.
The match will be played at the Vitality Stadium
AFC Bournemouth vs MK Dons will be played at the Vitality Stadium, Bournemouth.
The maximum capacity is 11,364, and it should be a good atmosphere as both sides return to competitive action.
