Young full-back Kevin Stewart has made the move to Liverpool, Sky Sports understands, after Tottenham Hotspur opted to release the youngster.

Stewart has come through the ranks at White Hart Lane, and has skippered their youth sides, but Spurs decided not to hand him a professional deal.

Stewart never appeared for Spurs, but was an unused substitute against PAOK in the Europa League several seasons ago. However, he never made the jump up to the first-team.

The 20-year-old previously spent time on loan at Crewe Alexandra, where he picked up a Johnstone's Paint Trophy winners medal. He only made four professional appearances, but impressed for their U21 side - scoring a neat back-heeled flick against Barnsley

The deal was kept quiet, but he is reportedly set to have been confirmed as a Liverpool player as soon as the transfer window opened on Tuesday 1st of July.

After signing a two-year deal for Liverpool, the defender took to Twitter to celebrate. "Delighted to have signed for @LFC! Its been a dream of mine from a kid! Thank you for all of the welcoming messages! #YNWA" he said on Wednesday afternoon.

With a fan asking "welcome to the best football club in the world.. You're obviously a boyhood red then?", Stewart then jubilantly replied "From birth!"

The English-born defender can play at centre-back or full-back on either side, but it is unknown as to whether he will break into the first team fold or remain an U21s player for the timebeing.
